Vocal communication is an emblematic feature of group-living animals, used to share information and strengthen social bonds. Vocalizations are also used to coordinate group-level behaviours in many taxa, but little is known of the factors that may influence vocal behaviour during cooperative acts. Allied male Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins () use the 'pop' vocalization as a coercive signal when working together to herd single oestrous females.

Background: To provide high-quality patient care, heart failure (HF) nurses must comprehend/use best evidence; however, HF nurses' ability to do so are unknown.
Objectives: To describe HF nurses' research interest/involvement, confidence, facilitators/motivators, and barriers to lead/collaborate in research studies.
Methods: A descriptive design with convenience sampling and online data collection (Qualtrics) were used with American Association of HF Nurses members.

The use of medical data for machine learning, including unsupervised methods such as clustering, is often restricted by privacy regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Medical data is sensitive and highly regulated and anonymization is often insufficient to protect a patient's identity. Traditional clustering algorithms are also unsuitable for longitudinal behavioral health trials, which often have missing data and observe individual behaviors over varying time periods.

Background: Due to the nursing faculty shortage, expert clinical nurses are working as novice clinical instructors (CIs). Orientation is needed to prepare these nurses to teach; however, lack of evidence-based guidelines for orientation programs can lead to variability among institutions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe clinical nursing faculty orientation practices in the United States.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide. In particular, patients who suffer from ischemic heart disease (IHD) that is not amenable to surgical or percutaneous revascularization techniques have limited treatment options. Furthermore, after revascularization is successfully implemented, there are a number of pathophysiological changes to the myocardium, including but not limited to ischemia-reperfusion injury, necrosis, altered inflammation, tissue remodeling, and dyskinetic wall motion.

Developing patient-specific implants has an increasing interest in the application of emerging additive manufacturing (AM) technologies. On the other hand, despite advances in total knee replacement (TKR), studies suggest that up to 20% of patients with elective TKR are dissatisfied with the outcome. By creating 3D objects from digital models, AM enables the production of patient-specific implants with complex geometries, such as those required for knee replacements.

Background: Evidence-based treatments used in managing behaviors of children require caregiver engagement. However, there is a gap in understanding a caregiver's level of comprehension of how they can advocate for their children's mental health needs and how to help their children in the home once outpatient treatment is initiated.
Methods: This was a qualitative study using interviews with semi-structured research questions.

In PROPELLER MRI, obtaining sufficient high-quality blade data remains a challenge, so the efficiency and generalization of deep learning-based reconstruction models are deteriorated. Due to narrow rotated and translated blades acquired in PROPELLER, the technique of data augmentation that is used for deep learning-based Cartesian MRI reconstruction cannot be directly applied. To address the issue, this paper introduces a novel approach for the generation of synthetic PROPELLER blades, and it is subsequently employed in data augmentation for undersampled blades reconstruction.

The Monsoon Intra-Seasonal Oscillations in the Bay of Bengal (MISO-BOB) field campaign was conducted in the Indian Ocean during the 2018 and 2019 summer monsoon seasons. WC-130J aircraft of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron of the US Air Force participated in the campaign in June 2018. The dropsonde observations across a tropical supercluster showed zonal wind variations in association with the structure of the convectively coupled Kelvin wave (CCKW).

Multimodal neuroimaging using electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) provides complementary views of cortical processes, including those related to auditory processing. However, current multimodal approaches often overlook potential insights that can be gained from nonlinear interactions between electrical and hemodynamic signals. Here, we explore electro-vascular phase-amplitude coupling (PAC) between low-frequency hemodynamic and high-frequency electrical oscillations during an auditory task.

Stress experienced by family caregivers of individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) contributes to caregiver burden. To understand the stressors experienced by family caregivers of individuals with OUD and the factors that influence their personal resiliency, data were collected from a convenience sample of family caregivers who answered two open-ended questions about sources of stress and factors that affect their personal resilience as part of an online survey. Yin's thematic analysis revealed five objective and two subjective burden themes and four resilience themes.

Hydrogels usually are fabricated by using monomers or preexisting polymers in precursor solutions. Here, a polyelectrolyte complex biohydrogel (Bio-PEC hydrogel) made from a precursor dough, by kneading, annealing, and crosslinking the dough of two oppositely charged polysaccharides, cationic chitosan quaternary ammonium salt (HACC) and anionic sodium hyaluronate (HA), photoinitiator (α-ketoglutaric acid), crosslinker glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), and water of very small quantity is reported. Controlled kneading and annealing homogenized the dough with respect to transforming randomly distributed, individual polymer chains into tightly wound double-stranded structures, which, upon UV irradiation, covalently sparsely crosslinked into a highly entangled network and subsequently, upon fully swollen in water, results in Bio-PEC hydrogel, HACC/HA, exhibiting near-perfect elasticity, high tensile strength, and high swelling resistance.

Although the longevity of superhydrophobic surface (SHS) induced by diffusive gas transfer has been extensively studied, the scaling relation between SHS longevity and undersaturation level of the liquid is still an open question. In this study, we address this question by performing experiments where the plastron decay is visualized by a nonintrusive optical technique based on light reflection, the gas diffusion is introduced by using liquid with low dissolved gas concentrations, and the SHS longevity is measured based on the status of gas on the entire surface. We find that the SHS longevity () follows a scaling relation: ∼ (1 - ), where is the ratio of the gas concentration in liquid to that in the plastron.

The work presented here provides the guidelines and results for designing and implementing a highly sensitive modified Van der Pol - Duffing oscillator with a trigonometric damping function (VTD). This VTD can exhibit periodic and quasi-chaotic behavior necessary for application in weak signal detection. Here, we present two proposals: (1) A method based on a quasi-chaotic intermittent array (ANLIOA), whose all VTD parameters are calculated and fine-tuned toward a critical state between chaotic and periodic state through a Lyapunov exponent procedure, and (2) A method based on a single oscillator in an adaptive stopping oscillation system (ANLSOS), where VTD is established within an oscillatory regime.
