A case of fatal disseminated adenovirus and drug-resistant Pneumocystis pneumonia in a patient who received chemotherapy for mantle cell lymphoma.

Adenovirus (ADV) may cause severe complications in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients, but disseminated ADV infections in patients who received chemotherapy alone for hematological malignancies are poorly understood due to the rarity of cases. Concomitant infection with Pneumocystis (PCP) is extremely rare. Despite being diagnostically challenging, a more specific workup needs to be initiated with a low threshold in patients who are exposed to agents with the potential to suppress T cells.

Pencil beam scanning versus passively scattered proton therapy for unresectable pancreatic cancer.

Background: With an increasing number of proton centers capable of delivering pencil beam scanning (PBS), understanding the dosimetric differences in PBS compared to passively scattered proton therapy (PSPT) for pancreatic cancer is of interest.

Methods: Optimized PBS plans were retrospectively generated for 11 patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer previously treated with PSPT to 59.4 Gy on a prospective trial.

Guideline-concordant weight-loss programs in an urban area are uncommon and difficult to identify through the internet.

Objective: To determine the reliability of Internet-based information on community-based weight-loss programs and grade their degree of concordance with 2013 American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and The Obesity Society weight-management guidelines.

Methods: An online search was conducted for weight-loss programs in the Maryland-Washington, DC-Virginia corridor. Content analysis was performed to abstract program components from their websites, and then 80 programs were randomly selected for a telephone survey to verify this information.
