To identify characteristics and quality indicators of best practices for leadership and advocacy development in pharmacy education, a national task force on leadership development in pharmacy invited colleges and schools to complete a phone survey to characterize the courses, processes, and noteworthy practices for leadership and advocacy development at their institution. The literature was consulted to corroborate survey findings and identify additional best practices. Recommendations were derived from the survey results and literature review, as well as from the experience and expertise of task force members.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of octreotide on number of hypoglycemic episodes and blood glucose concentrations (BGCs) in a case series of young children who received octreotide for treatment of sulfonylurea-induced hypoglycemia and to identify the frequency of adverse effects associated with octreotide's use for this indication.
Methods: A retrospective review of 9 years of National Poison Data System pediatric sulfonylurea overdoses treated with octreotide was conducted. Inclusion criteria were age younger than 6 years with acute sulfonylurea overdose managed in a health care facility.

Background: Herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) infections can cause a number of diseases ranging from simple cold sores to dangerous keratitis and lethal encephalitis. The interaction between virus and host cells, critical for viral replication, is being extensively investigated by many laboratories. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that HSV-1 lytic infection triggers the expression of important multi-functional transcription factor Egr1.
