Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), impacting approximately 2% of adults worldwide, presents a formidable challenge in psychiatric diagnostics. Often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed, BPD is associated with high morbidity and mortality. This scoping review embarks on a comprehensive exploration of observable cues in BPD, encompassing language patterns, speech nuances, facial expressions, nonverbal communication, and physiological measurements.

The gender gap in academic anesthesiology and critical care medicine: a systematic review.

Purpose: Gender disparities in academia are a growing concern, impacting various disciplines, including health care. We aimed to investigate gender-based differences in academic performance, leadership roles, and academic distinction within anesthesiology and critical care medicine.

Herein, novel, superabsorbent, and pH-responsive hydrogels obtained by the photochemical cross-linking of hydrophilic poly(vinylphosphonates) are introduced. Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) - Pathologia, quo vadis? - A global survey.

Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and the tumor microenvironment have become increasingly important in cancer research, and immunotherapy has achieved major breakthroughs in improving patient outcomes. Despite the significant role of the pathologist in identifying, subtyping and reporting TILs, the implementation and assessment of TILs in pathology routine remains vague. To assess the actual use of TILs in routine clinical practice, a formal standardized questionnaire was disseminated on two social media platforms ("X" and LinkedIn) and by email in June 2024.

Methods: Blood inflammatory parameters (eosinophil and neutrophil counts and inflammatory mediators using multiplex immunoassay technology) were measured in children (6-17 years) with moderate-to-severe asthma from the SysPharmPediA cohort across four European countries.

The Fourth International Last Aid Conference was held from 4th to 6th September 2024 in Cologne, Germany. Seventy-three participants from 16 different countries and nationalities participated in the Fourth International Last Aid conference in the Mildred Scheel Academy and the Department of Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital of Cologne, Germany. The main topics of the conference were experiences with Last Aid Courses, research on public palliative care education (PPCE) and networks in community palliative care from different countries.

The role of FoxP3 Tregs in the TME of peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCLs) is complex, and their impact on overall survival (OS) remains unclear. Lean ZSF1 rats in basic research on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

Aims: ZSF1 obese rats harbouring two mutant leptin receptor alleles (Lepr and Lepr) develop metabolic syndrome and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), making them a widely used animal model in cardiometabolic research. Studies using ZSF1 rats have contributed significantly to the elucidation of pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HFpEF and therapeutic strategies against this multi-organ syndrome. In contrast, hybrid, lean ZSF1 rats (L-ZSF1) do not develop HFpEF and generally serve as controls, disregarding the possibility that the presence of one mutant Lepr allele might affect left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), diastolic dysfunction and other relevant HFpEF parameters, such as N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels and cardiac inflammation, which could increase during disease manifestation.

Treatment of hospitalized patient with hyperglycemia: An EFIM critically appraised and adapted guideline.

Background: Over the past decade, diabetes mellitus (DM) has emerged as a growing epidemic, with a direct link to an increased risk of hospitalization and a strong effect of glycemic control on clinical outcomes. The aim of this document was to critically appraise and adapt existing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to provide specific recommendations for the management of hyperglycemia in hospitalized adults with and without previously known DM, in an attempt to provide a practical tool to reduce the risk of major in-hospital complications.

Label-Guided relation prototype generation for Continual Relation Extraction.

Continual relation extraction (CRE) aims to extract relations towards the continuous and iterative arrival of new data. To address the problem of catastrophic forgetting, some existing research endeavors have focused on exploring memory replay methods by storing typical historical learned instances or embedding all observed relations as prototypes by averaging the hidden representation of samples and replaying them in the subsequent training process. However, this prototype generation method overlooks the rich semantic information within the label namespace and are also constrained by memory size, resulting in inadequate descriptions of relation semantics by relation prototypes.

Native and cationic cellulose nanofibril films enriched with avocado seed compounds as a green alternative for potential wound care applications.

Cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) show great potential for skin wound care and healing due to their biocompatibility, non-cytotoxicity, and high swelling with good mechanical stability. In the presented study, for the first time native and cationized cellulose nanofibrils were used in combination with avocado seeds extracts obtained with different extraction methods (ASE), as an alternative to a well-known antibiotic, Clindamycin, to produce films with high and long-lasting antimicrobial efficacy. The swelling capacity of prepared films and extracts/antibiotic release kinetics were studied at different pH values to evaluate pH response behavior.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is present in preclinical, clinical and research work, in various branches of medicine. Researchers and teachers at school of medicines may have different ethical attitudes and perspectives about the implementation of AI systems in medicine.

Methods: We conducted an online survey among researchers and teachers (RTs) at the departments and institutes of two Slovenian and four Croatian Schools of Medicine.

An international study of clinical, demographic, and competence-related determinants of communication with professionals.

Purpose: This study aims to identify a combination of clinical, demographic, and patient competence determinants of patients' communication with doctors and nurses in an international sample of cancer patients.

Methods: For our cross-sectional study, cancer patients assessed their communication with their doctors or nurses at the start of their treatment. Patients completed EORTC communication questionnaire QLQ-COMU26 to assess ten areas of communication with their doctor or nurses plus another item to assess how competent they felt when communicating with professionals.
