We investigated the effects of a high-fructose (HF) diet on cardiovascular risks in Sprague-Dawley rats. Twelve rats were randomly assigned to standard chow or HF diet for 20 weeks. Systolic blood pressure and circulating insulin, total cholesterol, and triacylglycerol levels were significantly higher in the HF group.

The association of ADP-ribosylation with cell proliferation and ischemia-reperfusion injury suggests that it may be a suitable target for therapeutic control of revascularization-induced injury. The purpose of this study was to investigate the inhibitory actions of ADP-ribosylation inhibitors on restenosis. In organ culture, the poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor 3,4-dihydro-5-methylisoquinolinone (PD128763) was unable to prevent neointimal hyperplasia, whereas the arginine-dependent mono(ADP-ribosyl)transferase (ART) inhibitor meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) was highly effective (EC(50) 21 microM).

Dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and the antihypertensive drug, telmisartan, have both been shown to modify cardiovascular risks. The effects of a combination of these two agents have, however, not been investigated. This 20 week study sought to assess the therapeutic potential of a CLA/telmisartan co-administration in rats fed a high-fructose high-fat diet.

Technetium-99m sestamibi imaging for parathyroid adenoma localization has been performed using both dual-tracer subtraction and double-phase single-tracer washout techniques. The relative accuracy of these two techniques is uncertain. We have developed a modified imaging technique which combines both approaches and have directly compared them in a series of patients with surgically explored hyperparathyroidism.

A chronically elevated lipase is a rare biochemical finding and has only previously been described in patients with malignancy and macrolipasemia. We report a case of chronic hyperlipasemia caused by sarcoidosis. The literature on pancreatic sarcoidosis is reviewed and the significance of lipase isoforms is discussed.
