Objectives: This study aimed to explore how the unprecedented stressors associated with the COVID-19 pandemic may have contributed to heightened levels of depression and anxiety among pregnant Indigenous persons, and identify protective individual-level factors.
Design: The current study used a mixed-methods design including standardised questionnaires and open-ended response questions. Using hierarchical regression models, we examined the extent to which COVID-19-related factors of service disruption (ie, changes to prenatal care, changes to birth plans and social support) were associated with mental well-being.

Rationale & Objective: Accurate detection of hypertension is crucial for clinical management of pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD). The 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) clinical practice guideline for childhood hypertension included new normative blood pressure (BP) values and revised definitions of BP categories. In this study, we examined the effect of applying the AAP guideline's normative data and definitions to the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) cohort compared with use of normative data and definitions from the 2004 Fourth Report on the Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents.

Data from clinical trials are needed to guide the safe and effective use of medicines in children. Clinical trials are challenging to design and implement in all populations, and children present additional considerations. Several regions including the UK, USA and Europe have established clinical trial infrastructure to capitalise on expertise and promote clinical trials enrolling children.

Objectives: To compose and validate an electronic medical records-based case definition for pediatric diabetes in primary care.
Methods: Data from the electronic medical records of 221 primary care providers participating in the Manitoba Primary Care Research Network were extracted from April 1, 1998, to March 31, 2015. We assessed agreement among the 3 case definitions of pediatric diabetes and compared the performance of each with the clinical database of the Manitoba Diabetes Education Resource for Children and Adolescents.

Patients with inborn errors of metabolism and their families require unique clinical care including management of acute illnesses, screening for long term complications, discussion of the etiology of the condition, connections to social supports, and clarification of the recurrence risks and prenatal testing and treatment options. Our multidisciplinary pediatric metabolic clinic combines the skills of metabolic geneticists, pediatric dieticians, social workers, clinical pharmacists, nurses and genetic counselors to provide optimal and well-rounded care for our patients and their families. Given the inherited nature of most inborn errors of metabolism and the necessary long-term management for these disorders, the genetic counselor's role in this clinic setting is integral in providing ongoing support and education for patients and their families.

We evaluated the effectiveness of the Home Care Program of Children's Hospital of Winnipeg for ventilator-dependent children by retrospectively examining morbidity and mortality from February 1, 1979, to July 31, 1992. For the 22 study subjects, the cause of chronic respiratory failure was neurologic disorders for 14 (64%) (group A) and pulmonary disorders for eight (36%) (group B). There were no significant differences between groups A and B in the average number of hospital days, readmission rate, or length of stay per admission.
