We studied the evaporation-induced formation of supraparticles from dispersions of elongated colloidal particles using experiments and computer simulations. Aqueous droplets containing a dispersion of ellipsoidal and spherical polystyrene particles were dried on superamphiphobic surfaces at different humidity values that led to varying evaporation rates. Supraparticles made from only ellipsoidal particles showed short-range lateral ordering at the supraparticle surface and random orientations in the interior regardless of the evaporation rate.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of orthognathic therapy on patients' quality of life. Therefore, a systematic review was conducted including all prospective studies that compared pretherapeutic and posttherapeutic Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) or Overall Quality of Life (OQOL) questionnaire scores. Studies in patients with congenital deformities, clefts, or posttraumatic or cancer-associated deformities were excluded.

Objective parameters to quantify psoriatic inflammation are needed for interdisciplinary patient care, as well as preclinical experimental models. This study evaluates neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in psoriasis patients and five murine models of psoriasis-like skin disease based on topical imiquimod application and overexpression of IL-17A under different promotors. We performed a single-center prospective observational study in a German population, investigating psoriasis patients prior to, 4 weeks, and 16 weeks post begin of systemic anti-inflammatory therapy.

The influence of a protein corona on the uptake of nanoparticles in cells has been demonstrated in various publications over the last years. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), can be seen as natural nanoparticles. However, EVs are produced under different cell culture conditions and little is known about the protein corona forming on EVs and its influence on their uptake by target cells.

We study quantum information scrambling in a random unitary circuit that exchanges qubits with an environment at a rate p. As a result, initially localized quantum information not only spreads within the system, but also spills into the environment. Using the out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) to characterize scrambling, we find a nonequilibrium phase transition in the directed percolation universality class at a critical swap rate p_{c}: for p

The role of cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED)-related tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is increasingly recognized as an independent clinical entity. Hence, interventional TR treatment options continuously evolve, surgical risk assessment and peri-operative care improve the management of CIED-related TR, and the role of lead extraction is of high interest. Furthermore, novel surgical and interventional tricuspid valve treatment options are increasingly applied to patients suffering from TR associated with or related to CIEDs.

Engineering the response to external signals in mechanically switchable hydrogels is important to promote smart materials applications. However, comparably little attention has focused on embedded precision mechanisms for autonomous nonlinear response in mechanical profiles in hydrogels, and we lack understanding of how the behavior from the molecular scale transduces to the macroscale. Here, we design a nonlinear stress-strain response into hydrogels by engineering sacrificial DNA hairpin loops into model network hydrogels formed from star-shaped building blocks.

Background: In Europe, ambulances are increasingly being equipped with blood products for prehospital use. Available evidence on the early administration of blood products comes from military medicine and the Anglo-American medical literature; the evidence cannot be easily transferred to European countries.
Objectives: This study assesses the incidence of patients with massive haemorrhage after trauma and the potential need for prehospital blood transfusions.

Iceland's exposure to major ocean current pathways of the central North Atlantic makes it a useful location for developing long-term proxy records of past marine climate. Such records provide more detailed understanding of the full range of past variability which is necessary to improve predictions of future changes. We constructed a 225-year (1791-2015 CE) master shell growth chronology from 29 shells of collected at 100 m water depth in southwest Iceland (Faxaflói).

Pediatric Normal Tissue Effects in the Clinic (PENTEC) is an international multidisciplinary effort that aims to summarize normal-tissue toxicity risks based on published dose-volume data from studies of children and adolescents treated with radiation therapy (RT) for cancer. With recognition that children are uniquely vulnerable to treatment-related toxic effects, our mission and challenge was to assemble our group of physicians (radiation and pediatric oncologists, subspecialists), physicists with clinical and modeling expertise, epidemiologists, and other scientists to develop evidence-based radiation dosimetric guidelines, as affected by developmental status and other factors (eg, other cancer therapies and host factors). These quantitative toxicity risk estimates could serve to inform RT planning and thereby improve outcomes.

Primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (pHLH) is a life-threatening hyperinflammatory syndrome that develops mainly in patients with genetic disorders of lymphocyte cytotoxicity and X-linked lymphoproliferative syndromes. Previous studies with etoposide-based treatment followed by hematopoetic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) resulted in 5-year survival of 50% to 59%. Contemporary data are lacking.

Self-assembly of colloidal particles offers an attractive bottom-up approach to functional materials. Current design strategies for colloidal assemblies are mostly based on thermodynamically controlled principles and lack autonomous behavior. The next advance in the properties of colloidal assemblies will come from coupling these structures to out-of-equilibrium chemical reaction networks furnishing them with autonomous and dynamic behavior.

It is well established that P3 latencies increase with age. Investigating these age-related differences requires numerous methodological decisions, resulting in pipelines of great variation. The aim of the present work was to investigate the effects of different analytical pipelines on the age-related differences in P3 latencies in real data.

A narrow structure in the pΛ[over ¯] system near the mass threshold, named as X(2085), is observed in the process e^{+}e^{-}→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯] with a statistical significance greater than 20σ. Its spin and parity are determined for the first time to be J^{P}=1^{+} in an amplitude analysis, with a statistical significance greater than 5σ over other quantum numbers (0^{-},1^{-} and 2^{+}). The pole positions of X(2085) are measured to be M_{pole}=(2084_{-2}^{+4}±9) MeV and Γ_{pole}=(58_{-3}^{+4}±25) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic.

Most solid metastatic cancers are resistant to chemotherapy. However, metastatic testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) are cured in over 80% of patients using cisplatin-based combination therapy. Published data suggest that TGCTs are sensitive to cisplatin due to limited DNA repair and presumably also to a propensity to undergo apoptosis.
