Purpose: An experimental approach was designed to measure the preload force, the coefficient of friction and the component of the tightening torque that is needed to surmount the thread-friction in an implant-abutment-screw complex that includes a carbon-coated screw. With the determined preload values the coefficient of friction was calculated.

Methods: 25 unused complexes, containing an implant, an abutment and a carbon-coated titanium alloy abutment screw, were tested.

One of the essential insights from psychological research is that people's information processing is often biased. By now, a number of different biases have been identified and empirically demonstrated. Unfortunately, however, these biases have often been examined in separate lines of research, thereby precluding the recognition of shared principles.

In thymus, the ablation of T cell receptor (TCR)-activated transcription factor NFATc1 or its inducible isoforms during the double-negative (DN) stages of thymocyte development leads to a marked increase in γδ thymocytes whereas the development of αβ thymocytes remains mostly unaffected. These γδ thymocytes are characterized by the upregulation of the promyelocytic leukemia zinc-finger factor (PLZF), the "master regulator" of natural killer T (NKT) cell development, and the acquisition of an NKT γδ cell phenotype with higher cell survival rates. The suppressive function of NFATc1 in NKT γδ cell formation critically depends on the remote enhancer E2, which is essential for the inducible expression of NFATc1 directed by its distal promoter P1.

Department of Pharmacology, Ribeirao Preto Medical School, University of Sao Paulo, Ribeirao Preto, Brazil; Center for Research in Inflammatory Diseases, Ribeirao Preto Medical School, University of Sao Paulo, Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. Electronic address:

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder driven by the IL-23/type 3 immune response. However, molecular mechanisms sustaining the chronicity of inflammation and psoriatic lesions remain elusive. Combining systematic analyses of several transcriptomic datasets, we delineated gene signatures across human psoriatic skin, identifying S100A9 as one of the most up-regulated genes, which was confirmed in lesioned skin from patients with psoriasis and preclinical psoriasiform skin inflammation models.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists studied a type of cancer called pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) to learn how it spreads, especially through a way of growing tiny organ-like structures (organoids) that mimic real cancer cells.
  • They found that invasive cancer cells had different genes turned on compared to non-invasive cells from the same patient, which helps explain how the cancer invades.
  • By looking at data from other sources, they discovered that the surroundings of the tumor (like nearby non-cancer cells) can influence how aggressive the cancer becomes, and certain proteins can play a big role in this process.

Fatigue is a widespread and complex symptom with motor and cognitive components; it is diagnosed predominantly by questionnaire. We recently published a correlation between anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antibodies and fatigue in patients with SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus). In the present study, we examined whether this association also applies to patients with other rheumatic diseases.

Magnon scattering modulated by omnidirectional hopfion motion in antiferromagnets for meta-learning.

Sci Adv

February 2023

Fert Beijing Research Institute, MIIT Key Laboratory of Spintronics, School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing 100191, P. R. China.

Neuromorphic computing is expected to achieve human-brain performance by reproducing the structure of biological neural systems. However, previous neuromorphic designs based on synapse devices are all unsatisfying for their hardwired network structure and limited connection density, far from their biological counterpart, which has high connection density and the ability of meta-learning. Here, we propose a neural network based on magnon scattering modulated by an omnidirectional mobile hopfion in antiferromagnets.
