Introduction The present study was undertaken to assess the status of oxidative stress in chronic cigarette smokers. Materials and methods Thirty adult male chronic cigarette smokers and an equal number of age and sex-matched normal subjects from the Deoghar district of Jharkhand state, India, were included in the study. The status of lipid peroxidation was determined using malondialdehyde (MDA), and the activities of enzymic antioxidants, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), were determined using standard protocols.

The co-occurrence of sensorineural hearing loss and male infertility has been reported in several instances, suggesting potential shared genetic underpinnings. One such example is the contiguous gene deletion of and genes, previously associated with deafness-infertility syndrome (DIS) in males. Fifteen males with both hearing loss and infertility from southern India after exclusion for the DIS contiguous gene deletion and the gene mutations are subjected to exome sequencing.

Photoluminescent carbon dots (PL CDs) have drawn tremendous attention from researchers owing to their admirable properties and wide range of applications. Herein, highly PL nitrogen and sulfur doped carbon dots (N,S-CDs) were synthesized through a facile, green and rapid one-step microwave assisted method using goat hooves, a bio-waste and a green precursor. The structural and photophysical properties of as obtained N,S-CDs were thoroughly investigated.

Spinal cord injury induces scar formation causes axonal damage that leads to the degeneration of axonal function. Still, there is no robust conceptual design to regenerate the damaged axon after spinal injury. Therefore, the present study demonstrates that human gingival derived neuronal stem cells (GNSCs) transplants in the injectable caffeic acid bioconjugated hydrogel (CBGH) helps to bridge the cavity and promote the engraftment and repopulation of transplants in the injured spinal tissue.

ZnO nanorods were capped with a simple amino acid, , l-alanine to increase the carrier concentration and improve the performance of ZnO/CuI heterojunction diodes. The effect of l-alanine capping on the morphology, structural, optical, electrochemical and electrical properties of ZnO nanorods had been studied in detail. The stable structure with two equally strong Zn-O coordinate bonds predicted by density functional theory was in agreement with the experimental results of FTIR spectroscopy.

Bacteria have developed multidrug resistance against available antimicrobial agents. Infectious diseases caused by these multidrug-resistant bacteria are major causes of morbidity and mortality in human beings. Synthetic drugs are expensive and inadequate for the treatment of diseases, causing side effects and ineffective against multidrug-resistant bacteria.
