Article Synopsis
  • - This study focuses on eQTL (gene expression) and sQTL (alternative splicing) analyses, specifically involving 1,012 African American participants from the Jackson Heart Study, addressing a previous bias towards European populations in similar research.
  • - Researchers identified a significant number of unique eQTL and sQTL credible sets, totaling over 42,000, with many findings being rare alleles that might not have been detected in European ancestry populations.
  • - An open database containing these QTL results has been created for easy access, allowing other researchers to query and download data efficiently.

Mothers living with HIV are faced with managing their own complex healthcare and wellness needs while caring for their children. Understanding the lived experiences of mothers living with HIV, including grandmothers and mothers with older children - who are less explicitly represented in existing literature, may guide the development of interventions that best support them and their families. This study sought to explore the role of motherhood and related social/structural factors on engagement with HIV care, treatment-seeking behaviour, and overall HIV management among mothers living with HIV in the USA to inform such efforts.

The Aviv fluorescence detection system (Aviv-FDS) has allowed the performance of sedimentation velocity experiments on therapeutic antibodies in highly concentrated environments like formulation buffers and serum. Methods were implemented in the software package SEDANAL for the analysis of nonideal, weakly associating AUC data acquired on therapeutic antibodies and proteins (Wright et al. Eur Biophys J 47:709-722, 2018, Anal Biochem 550:72-83, 2018).

Closed-head, frontal impacts in which the brain undergoes both lateral and rotational acceleration comprise the majority of human traumatic brain injury (TBI). Here, we utilize a clinically relevant model to examine the effects of a single concussion on aspects of brain integrity: the blood-brain barrier, the perineuronal nets (PNNs), and diffuse axonal injury. Adult, male Sprague-Dawley rats received either a frontal, closed-head concussive TBI, or no injury and were evaluated at 1- or 7-day post-injury.

Background: Risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) has been associated with approximately 50% breast cancer risk reduction among women with a pathogenic variant in or (), a finding that has recently been questioned.

Methods: We estimated incidence rates of breast cancer and all cancers combined during 5 years of follow-up among participants selecting RRSO or ovarian cancer screening (OCS) among women with a pathogenic variant or strong breast and/or ovarian cancer family history. Ovarian or fallopian tube or peritoneal cancer incidence rates were estimated for the OCS group.
