Purpose: This study tested the hypothesis that ecological momentary assessment (EMA) of pelvic pain (PP) and urinary urgency (UU) would reveal unique Urologic Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (UCPPS) phenotypes that would be associated with disease specific quality of life (QOL) and illness impact metrics (IIM).
Materials And Methods: A previously validated smart phone app (M-app) was provided to willing Multidisciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP) participants. M-app notifications were sent 4-times daily for 14 days inquiring about PP and UU severity.

Background: Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) increase the expression of ACE2, which is a receptor for entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells. Though evidence suggests that ARB/ACEI are safe among the general population with COVID-19, their safety in patients with overweight/obesity-related hypertension deserves further evaluation.
Objective: We assessed the association between ARB/ACEI use and COVID-19 severity in patients with overweight/obesity-related hypertension.

Integrity and adherence to appropriate ethical standards are important elements of research. These standards are key to protecting research participants´ rights as well as ensuring the reliability and quality of research outputs. Although empirical evidence is scanty, several authors have alluded to the fact that violation of research integrity standards could be common in low- and middle-income countries including sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

Subepithelial platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRα)+ cells found in the colonic mucosal tissue come in close contact with epithelial cells, immune cells, neurons, capillaries, and lymphatic networks. Mucosal subepithelial PDGFRα+ cells (MuPαC) are important regulators in various intestinal diseases including fibrosis and inflammation. However, the transcriptome of MuPαC has not yet been elucidated.

Existing research on spousal care focuses on one spouse receiving care from the other, which fails to address the complexity that is created when both spouses experience some impairments. Our study included situations in which one or both spouses have functional impairments when examining the extent to which spouses from the same couple hold a (dis)similar level of functional impairment and whether such within-couple (dis)similarity has an impact on the spousal care arrangement. A subsample of 1170 older married couples was selected from the 2014 Health and Retirement Study.

Objectives: The objective was to explore the effect of the proneuronal transcription factor neurogenic differentiation 1 (Neurod1, ND1) on Schwann cells (SC) and schwannoma cell proliferation.
Methods: Using a variety of transgenic mouse lines, we investigated how expression of Neurod1 effects medulloblastoma (MB) growth, schwannoma tumor progression, vestibular function, and SC cell proliferation. Primary human vestibular schwannoma (VS) cell cultures were transduced with adenoviral vectors expressing Neurod1.

Nanoliposomes are considered to be the most successful nanoparticle drug delivery system, but their fate in vivo has not been fully understood due to lack of reliable bioanalytical methods, which seriously limits the development of liposomal drugs. Hence, an overview of currently used bioanalytical methods is imperative to lay the groundwork for the need of developing a bioanalytical method for liposome measurements in vivo. Currently, major analytical methods for nanoliposomes measurement in vivo include fluorescence labeling, radiolabeling, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mass spectrometry and computed tomography.

This article presents the development of a Portable Aerosol Collector and Spectrometer (PACS), an instrument designed to measure particle number, surface area, and mass concentrations continuously and time-weighted mass concentration by composition from 10 nm to 10 μm. The PACS consists of a six-stage particle size selector, a valve system, a water condensation particle counter to detect number concentrations, and a photometer to detect mass concentrations. The stages of the selector include three impactor and two diffusion stages, which resolve particles by size and collect particles for later chemical analysis.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a typical autoimmune disease. Genome-wide analyses have revealed that interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 1 (IRAK1) is associated with susceptibility to SLE. Our previous study investigated the role of IRAK1 in nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-related pathways in a mouse model of lupus.

The diabetic milieu is believed to change the activity, or result in damage of podocytes-a key component of the glomerular filtration barrier and known to secrete matrix for glomerular basement membrane. This in turn contributes to diabetic nephropathy. However, how podocyte dysfunction is triggered in diabetic nephropathy remains ambiguous.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a common, degenerative disease of the central retina affecting millions of elderly in the USA alone and many more worldwide. A better understanding of the pathophysiology of AMD will be essential for developing new treatments. In this review, we discuss the potential impact of complement complex deposition at the choriocapillaris of aging eyes and the relationship between choriocapillaris loss and drusen formation.

Triboelectric charging is commonly detected during cardiopulmonary bypass in circuits using roller pumps and PVC tubing. Dissipation of this charging is needed to prevent a spontaneous discharge from occurring. We evaluated the ability of the Quadrox-D (Maquet) to effectively remove the electrostatic charge accumulation, with and without a heater/cooler connection (H/C).

The hinge region of a mechanical bileaflet valve is implicated in blood damage and initiation of thrombus formation. Detailed fluid dynamic analysis in the complex geometry of the hinge region during the closing phase of the bileaflet valve is the focus of this study to understand the effect of fluid-induced stresses on the activation of platelets. A fixed-grid Cartesian mesh flow solver is used to simulate the blood flow through a two-dimensional geometry of the hinge region of a bileaflet mechanical valve.

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has the potential to reduce the size and cost of CT scanners. This emerging technology produces images with isotropic sub-millimeter spatial resolution with high diagnostic quality, short scanning times of about 10-30 seconds, and radiation dosages of up to 15 times lower than those of conventional CT scans. It is ideally suited for dedicated dentomaxillofacial CT scanning.

To understand the relationship between characteristics of mothers' social networks and domestic violence, battered mothers who were severely assaulted were compared to battered mothers who were not severely assaulted and mothers who were not assaulted. The results showed that all three groups of mothers had several family members in their social networks with whom they had frequent contact during the past month. No differences were found between the groups on the number of family members who gave emotional support.

Introduction: Forty-nine states and the District of Columbia have adult protective services (APS) related statutes that define adult/elder mistreatment found in domestic settings. Institutional adult/elder mistreatment laws are administered by the nursing home licensing agencies and may contain different or duplicate APS-related mistreatment definitions. The purposes of this paper are to describe and summarize the mistreatment definitions in the nursing home licensure statutes and compare those definitions with the definitions found in the APS-related statutes.

Background: It is generally acknowledged that the vast majority of serious mental disorders have significant genetic contributions that manifest complex inheritance patterns. Despite this, few gene polymorphisms have been unambiguously identified as risk factors for behavioral illness and the mechanisms through which these select polymorphisms affect human behavior is completely unclear. One of the major reasons for this lack of progress is the phenomenon of gene-environment (GxE) interactions.
