Imperfection sensitivity of large amplitude vibration of curved single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is considered in this study. The SWCNT is modeled as a Timoshenko nano-beam and its curved shape is included as an initial geometric imperfection term in the displacement field. Geometric nonlinearities of von Kármán type and nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen are employed to derive governing equations of motion.

Metal sulfides are commonly used in energy storage and electrocatalysts due to their redox centers and active sites. Using evolutionary theory to predict the dynamics of populations is one of the aims of evolutionary conservation. The predation of wildlife by domestic cats (Felis catus) is a complex problem: Cats are popular companion animals in modern society but are also acknowledged predators of birds, herpetofauna, invertebrates, and small mammals. A comprehensive understanding of this conservation issue demands an understanding of both the ecological consequence of owning a domestic cat and the attitudes of cat owners. Here, we determine whether cat owners are aware of the predatory behavior of their cats, using data collected from 86 cats in two UK villages.

Role of the central cations in the mechanical unfolding of DNA and RNA G-quadruplexes.

Cations are known to mediate diverse interactions in nucleic acids duplexes but they are critical in the arrangement of four-stranded structures. Here, we use all-atom molecular dynamics simulations with explicit solvent to analyse the mechanical unfolding of representative intramolecular G-quadruplex structures: a parallel, a hybrid and an antiparallel DNA and a parallel RNA, in the presence of stabilising cations. We confirm the stability of these conformations in the presence of [Formula: see text] central ions and observe distortions from the tetrad topology in their absence.

Motivation: Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy has become established as a key method for determining the secondary structure contents of proteins which has had a significant impact on molecular biology. Many excellent mathematical protocols have been developed for this purpose and their quality is above question. However, reference database sets of proteins, with CD spectra matched to secondary structure components derived from X-ray structures, provide the key resource for this task.

Kharasch and Sosnovsky reported the allylic oxidation of alkenes to give racemic allylic benzoates. This could be achieved efficiently using a tert-butyl perester as the oxidant, in the presence of a copper or cobalt salt.
