An optimized digital RT-PCR (RT-dPCR) assay for the detection of human norovirus GI and GII RNA was compared with ISO 15216-conform quantitative real-time RT-PCR (RT-qPCR) assays in an interlaboratory study (ILS) among eight laboratories. A duplex GI/GII RT-dPCR assay, based on the ISO 15216-oligonucleotides, was used on a Bio-Rad QX200 platform by six laboratories. Adapted assays for Qiagen Qiacuity or ThermoFisher QuantStudio 3D were used by one laboratory each.

Article Synopsis
  • Euthanasia practices for zebrafish larvae younger than 5 days post fertilization are not well-documented, and standardized guidelines are lacking due to legal protections not covering these early-stage fish.
  • The study evaluated various euthanasia methods, including anesthetic overdoses and hypothermic shock, showing that clove oil, lidocaine with ethanol, and electrical stunning were the most effective with minimal signs of distress.
  • The recommended euthanasia method is a buffered lidocaine hydrochloride solution with ethanol, which effectively euthanizes embryos and larvae while minimizing stress; further research is needed for electrical stunning's efficacy.

Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLV) are spread throughout the world, including Slovenia, where the first evidence of caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) infection was found in 1996. This study was conducted to investigate the molecular and genetic characteristics of SRLV infection in Slovenia in order to classify our strains in relation to other known SRLV strains worldwide as well as to establish molecular techniques in concordance with serology. In this study, 340 goats and sheep were tested.

Recent variants of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) were obtained from tissues of domestic pigs with porcine circovirus associated disease and from randomly selected wild boar samples from Serbia and Slovenia. A 450-base-pair nucleotide sequence was obtained by PCR from the ORF2. The derived nucleotide and amino acid sequences were aligned and compared to the corresponding region of closely related PCV2 sequences determined in previous years and retrieved from the GenBank.

Lingually displaced mandibular canine teeth (304, 404) were treated by applying inclined planes in five bull terrier dogs aged 10-19 months. The inclined planes produced interrupted tipping forces and were left in place for 3 weeks. The orthodontic movement technique successfully resolved the malocclusions.
