Background: The incidence of hypertriglyceridemia-associated acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) is increasing globally and more so in China. The characteristics of liver-mediated metabolites and related key enzymes are rarely reported in HTG-AP. Chaiqin chengqi decoction (CQCQD) has been shown to protect against AP including HTG-AP in both patients and rodent models, but the underlying mechanisms in HTG-AP remain unexplored.

Background And Aim: This study aimed to compare the determinants and impact of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance rates for people with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) versus other chronic liver diseases.
Methods: A dataset of HCC patients from a UK hospital (2007-2022) was analyzed. The Mann-Whitney U-test compared continuous variables.

Introduction: Wearable neuromuscular and biomechanical biofeedback technology has the potential to improve patient outcomes by facilitating exercise interventions. We will conduct a systematic review to examine whether the addition of wearable biofeedback to exercise interventions improves pain, disability and quality of life beyond exercise alone for adults with chronic non-specific spinal pain. Specific effects on clinical, physiological, psychological, exercise adherence and safety outcomes will also be examined.

Aim: To evaluate the impact of denosumab on (i) the incidence of type 2 diabetes (T2D), and (ii) long-term health outcomes (microvascular [neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy] and macrovascular [cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular accident] complications, and all-cause mortality) in patients with T2D, before (iii) combining results with prior studies using meta-analysis.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of data in a large global federated database (TriNetX; Cambridge, MA) was conducted from 331 375 patients, without baseline T2D or cancer, prescribed either denosumab (treatment, n = 45 854) or bisphosphonates (control, n = 285 521), across 83 healthcare organizations. Propensity score matching (1:1) of confounders was undertaken that resulted in 45 851 in each cohort.

Background: Elective neck dissection improves survival in early oral cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy may also do this with less morbidity. This systematic review compared health-related quality of life, functional outcomes, and complications after sentinel lymph node biopsy and elective neck dissection in early oral cancer.

Introduction: Multiple drug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial (MDR-GNB) bacteraemia poses a serious threat to patients in hospital. Infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) patients are a vulnerable population to infectious complications during hospitalization. This study aims to evaluate the impact of MDR Gram-negative bacteraemia on IPN patients.

Objective: The objective of this study is to generate a core clinical dataset (CD) containing the minimum acceptable amount of information that should be collected for each patient presenting with triglyceride-induced acute pancreatitis within global treatment centres or sites.
Method: The Jandhyala Method, including systematic literature review and SMART interviews, was used to observe expert opinion from ten leaders in the treatment of triglyceride-induced acute pancreatitis (TG-IAP) across the US and EU.
Results: Using the PRISMA Literature Review Protocol, data were extracted from 123 of the 6718 identified studies.

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common digestive disease with increased incidence globally but without internationally licenced pharmacological therapy. Moderately severe and severe acute pancreatitis (MSAP/SAP) contributes predominately for its morbidities and mortality and has been managed in West China Hospital for decades using the traditional Chinese medicinal formula chaiqin chengqi decoction (CQCQD). The current study tests whether the early administration of CQCQD will result in improved clinical outcomes in predicted MSAP/SAP patients.

Alcohol abuse, an increasing problem in developed societies, is one of the leading causes of acute and chronic pancreatitis. Alcoholic pancreatitis is often associated with fibrosis mediated by activated pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs). Alcohol toxicity predominantly depends on its non-oxidative metabolites, fatty acid ethyl esters, generated from ethanol and fatty acids.

Background/objectives: Hypertriglyceridaemia increases risks from acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) over other aetiologies, but optimal management for HTG-AP remains undefined. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies of insulin-based treatment (IT) versus blood purification treatment (BPT) for HTG-AP.
Methods: Searches were conducted to identify randomised trials and observational studies published between 1946 and 2022 that compared IT and BPT for HTG-AP reporting baseline and post-treatment serum triglyceride (TG) levels with clinical outcomes.

Background: Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) in acute pancreatitis (AP) is associated with deterioration in organ function. This trial aimed to assess the efficacy of neostigmine for IAH in patients with AP.
Methods: In this single-center, randomized trial, consenting patients with IAH within 2 weeks of AP onset received conventional treatment for 24 h.

Aims: Despite the benefits of exercise training in the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, there are conflicting findings for the impact of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) on mortality for patients with heart failure (HF). The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the association of exercise-based CR with all-cause mortality, hospitalisation, stroke, and atrial fibrillation in patients with heart failure.
Methods And Results: A retrospective cohort study was conducted which utilized a global federated health research network, primarily in the USA.

Pancreatic trauma and high parenchymal pressure have been found to open Piezo1 plasma membrane Ca channels to such an extent that transient receptor potential vanilloid type 4 channels also open to further Ca entry, overloading the cell with Ca to induce acute pancreatitis (Swain et al, J Clin Invest, 2020). Elucidation of this mechanism is an important step in understanding pancreatitis and opens up new possibilities for prevention and treatment.
