Global and Regional Burden of Bloodstream Infections Caused by Carbapenem-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria in 2019: A Systematic Analysis from the MICROBE Database.

Objectives: To quantify the global and regional burden of bloodstream infections associated with and attributable to carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.

Methods: We extracted data from the MICROBE database, which includes the estimated burden of 23 pathogens and 88 pathogen-drug combinations across 12 major infectious syndromes globally in 2019. The number and rate of deaths, as well as disability-adjusted life-years linked to bloodstream infections, were systematically analyzed.

Objectives: The objectives were to determine the structure of training programmes and assessment of physicians training to become infectious disease (ID) specialists in Europe in early 2024, and to document the provision of specialists, trainees and training centres in each country.

Methods: Delegates to the ID Section and Board of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) entered national data on a web-based survey tool in late 2023-early 2024. Results were compared to UEMS recommendations on the structure and content of postgraduate training in ID in Europe (2018), and to results of a similar survey in early 2021.

Food-related emotional expectancies are the anticipated positive and negative emotions from eating different foods and are theorised to affect eating behaviour, and to be amenable to change. The Anticipated Effects of Food Scale (AEFS) assesses food-related emotional expectancies using 62 one-word items; however, a shorter questionnaire would be useful in large and clinical studies.

Remineralisation of enamel erosive lesions by daily-use fluoride treatments: network meta-analysis of an in situ study set.

Objectives: Daily-use fluoride products are first-line protection against enamel wear from dietary-acid exposure (DAE). This study aimed to understand effects of fluoride concentration, fluoride salt, product form and ingredients in daily-use products on remineralisation and demineralisation, via network meta-analysis (NMA) of 14 studies using one well-established in-situ model. Remineralisation (surface-microhardness recovery, SHMR) after treatment, and protection against subsequent demineralisation (acid-resistance ratio, ARR) were measured.

Background: The long-acting injectable regimen of cabotegravir plus rilpivirine (CAB/RPV) emerged as an alternative to oral standard of care integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-based regimens for individuals with adherence challenges or preference for reduced dosing schedules. Although oral INSTI regimens have a high barrier to emergent resistance, less is known about the potency and durability of CAB/RPV.

Methods: We reviewed clinical trial registries, PubMed, EMBASE, and conference abstract databases to identify published reports of CAB/RPV for HIV therapy.

Little is known about men's knowledge and views, specifically around sex during menstruation with FSW, a population who are particularly vulnerable to violence which may be heightened during menses.

The impact of Cochrane Reviews that apply network meta-analysis in clinical guidelines: A systematic review.

Background: Systematic reviews, such as those prepared by Cochrane, are the strongest evidence on which to base recommendations in clinical guidelines. Network meta-analysis (NMA) can be used to combine the results of studies to compare multiple treatments, which is advantageous over pair-wise meta-analysis (PW-MA) that compares two treatments. We aimed to summarise which, when, where, who, and why Cochrane Reviews that applied NMA were cited in guidelines; and to compare the citation of NMA reviews in guidelines with PW-MA reviews.

FDA-approved drugs as PIM-1 kinase inhibitors: A drug repurposed approach for cancer therapy.

PIM-1 kinase, a member of the Serine/Threonine kinase family, has emerged as a promising therapeutic target in various cancers due to its role in promoting tumor growth and resistance to conventional therapies. In this study, we employed a structure-based approach to screen 3800 FDA-approved drugs to discover potential inhibitors of PIM-1. After an initial selection of 50 candidates based on high docking scores, four drugs, stanozolol, alfaxalone, rifaximin, and telmisartan, were identified as strong PIM-1 binders, interacting with key residues in the ATP-binding pocket of the kinase.

Automatic MRI-TRUS Fusion Technique for Transperineal Biopsy Guidance: From Preoperative Planning to Intraoperative Navigation.

Background: Targeted and systematic transperineal biopsy of lesions guided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) fusion technique may optimize the biopsy procedure and enhance the detection of prostate cancer. We described the transperineal biopsy guided by an automatic MRI-TRUS fusion technique, and evaluated the accuracy and feasibility of this method in a prospective single-center study.

Methods: The proposed method focuses on automating the delineation of prostate contours in both the MRI and TRUS images, the registration and fusion of MRI and TRUS images, the generation and visualiztion of the systematic biopsy cores in their corresponding locations within the 2D and the 3D views, as well as the computation and visualiztion of needle trajectories from preoperative planning to intraoperative navigation.

Case report: Primary infection of conjunctival histoplasmosis mimicking a large conjunctival neoplasm in an immunosuppressed patient.

We report a rare case of a rapidly growing and large conjunctival histoplasmosis lesion in an immunosuppressed West African woman in her 80s, affecting her only eye. The patient had undergone a renal transplant and was on immunosuppressive medications. Additionally, she had previously been treated for presumed systemic histoplasmosis with itraconazole more than 5 years ago.

Background: Infections and sepsis are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in women during pregnancy and the post-pregnancy period. The Core Outcome Research Measures in Anal Cancer (CORMAC) project developed a core outcome set (COS) for chemoradiotherapy trials for anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) through an international healthcare professional and patient consensus process.
