In the last three decades, ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) has become an evidence-based safe and efficacious treatment for managing the most common cardiac arrhythmia. In 2007, the first joint expert consensus document was issued, guiding healthcare professionals involved in catheter or surgical AF ablation. Mounting research evidence and technological advances have resulted in a rapidly changing landscape in the field of catheter and surgical AF ablation, thus stressing the need for regularly updated versions of this partnership which were issued in 2012 and 2017.

The transcription factors STAT3, STAT5A, and STAT5B steer hematopoiesis and immunity, but their enhanced expression and activation promote acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or natural killer/T cell lymphoma (NKCL). Current therapeutic strategies focus on blocking upstream tyrosine kinases to inhibit STAT3/5, but these kinase blockers are not selective against STAT3/5 activation and frequent resistance causes relapse, emphasizing the need for targeted drugs. We evaluated the efficacy of JPX-0700 and JPX-0750 as dual STAT3/5 binding inhibitors promoting protein degradation.

Article Synopsis
  • The distribution of modern shallow-water tropical corals is primarily influenced by temperature, thriving only in waters above 16-18°C year-round.
  • Researchers tested whether solar radiation limits the spread of coral reefs toward the poles during warmer climates, using a new model for coral calcification.
  • Findings indicate that calcification rates significantly decline past 40° latitude and severely drop after 50° latitude due to less winter daylight, implying that light availability restricts coral reef expansion, not temperature alone, and that fossil coral distribution is not a reliable indicator for water temperatures in these areas.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed data from 7 trials with 1,774 STEMI patients to understand how the location of the infarct artery affects heart injury and outcomes after primary coronary intervention.
  • Results showed that patients with anterior STEMI (affecting the left anterior descending artery) had a larger median infarct size and were at a higher risk for mortality and heart failure hospitalization compared to those with nonanterior STEMI.
  • The research concluded that anterior STEMI leads to more severe heart damage and worse overall prognosis, highlighting the importance of infarct location in patient outcomes.

Ecological Niche Models (ENMs) are often used to project species distributions within alien ranges and in future climatic scenarios. However, ENMs depend on species-environment equilibrium, which may be absent for actively expanding species. We present a novel framework to estimate whether species have reached environmental equilibrium in their native and alien ranges.

Background: Increasing arterial stiffness is a prominent feature of the aging cardiovascular system. Arterial stiffening leads to fundamental alterations in central hemodynamics with widespread detrimental implications for organ function resulting in significant morbidity and death, and specific therapies to address the underlying age-related structural arterial remodeling remain elusive. The present study investigates the potential of the recently clinically available dual angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) sacubitril/valsartan (LCZ696) to counteract age-related arterial fibrotic remodeling and stiffening in 1-year-old mice.

BACKGROUND Renal denervation has proven its efficacy to lower blood pressure in comparison to sham treatment in recent randomized clinical trials. Although there is a large body of evidence for the durability and safety of radiofrequency-based renal denervation, there are a paucity of data for endovascular ultrasound-based renal denervation (uRDN). We aimed to assess the long-term efficacy and safety of uRDN in a single-center cohort of patients.

Background Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) frequently develops in patients with long-standing pulmonary hypertension, and both pathologies are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to improve prognostic assessment in patients with severe TR undergoing transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI) by relating the extent of TR to pulmonary artery pressures. Methods and Results In this multicenter study, we included 533 patients undergoing TTVI for moderate-to-severe or severe TR.

Intraspecific variability (IV) has been proposed to explain species coexistence in diverse communities. Assuming, sometimes implicitly, that conspecific individuals can perform differently in the same environment and that IV increases niche overlap, previous studies have found contrasting results regarding the effect of IV on species coexistence. We aim at showing that the large IV observed in data does not mean that conspecific individuals are necessarily different in their response to the environment and that the role of high-dimensional environmental variation in determining IV has largely remained unexplored in forest plant communities.
