The Role of Neutrophils and Their Extracellular Traps in the Synergy of Pre-eclampsia and HIV Infection.

Curr Hypertens Rep

May 2020

Discipline of Optics and Imaging, Doris Duke Medical Research Institute, Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa.

Purpose Of The Review: In our innate immune system, neutrophils are the first cells to sense signals of infection and to proceed to kill the invading pathogen. This is mediated by their production of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETS) to entrap pathogenic micro-organisms, preventing their amplification and dissemination. Pre-eclampsia (PE) is the leading cause of global maternal mortality, yet to date, there is no cure nor a gold-standard diagnostic strategy.

Different approaches can be used to repair extensive burn injury and chronic wounds, including full and split thickness skin grafts, temporising matrices and scaffolds, and composite cultured skin products. The use of non-cultured or autologous skin cells suspension in chronic burn is well established, but despite this no significant literature has been realized. The Rigenera micrografting technology is an innovative technique allowing to obtain a suspension of autologous micrografts that can be applied over the wounds in a combined methodology specifically developed and based on the both injections of the wound edges and spraying over the wound bed of this suspension.
