Two of the key functions of arteries in the brain are (1) the well-recognized supply of blood via the vascular lumen and (2) the emerging role for the arterial walls as routes for the elimination of interstitial fluid (ISF) and soluble metabolites, such as amyloid beta (Aβ), from the brain and retina. As the brain and retina possess no conventional lymphatic vessels, fluid drainage toward peripheral lymph nodes is mediated via transport along basement membranes in the walls of capillaries and arteries that form the intramural peri-arterial drainage (IPAD) system. Plant-animal interactions are diverse and widespread shaping ecology, evolution, and biodiversity of most ecological communities. Carnivorous plants are unusual in that they can be simultaneously engaged with animals in multiple mutualistic and antagonistic interactions including reversed plant-animal interactions where they are the predator. Competition with animals is a potential antagonistic plant-animal interaction unique to carnivorous plants when they and animal predators consume the same prey.

Background Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a manifestation of atherosclerosis characterized by reduced blood flow to the lower extremities and mobility loss. Preliminary evidence suggests PAD damages skeletal muscle, resulting in muscle impairments that contribute to functional decline. Owing to the complexity of interacting molecular networks on the cell surface, integrin-associated tetraspanin CD151 remains controversial regarding its clinical importance and functional impact in prostate cancer. The current study evaluated dynamics and clinical importance of CD151 expression and its function in prostate cancer by IHC analysis of two independent patient cohorts (n=80, 181), bioinformatic interrogation of the TCGA database, and evaluation of gene knockdown effect at the cellular level. Our data showed that aside from high mRNA expression, CD151 was primarily localized to intercellular junctions at the plasma membrane in normal prostate glands or benign tissues, regardless of nature of antibodies used.

We addressed the implications of limb loss and regeneration for multispecies interactions and their impacts on ecosystem engineering in freshwater stream environments.We included regenerative and nonregenerative crayfish as well as fish predators in a 2 × 2 factorial design to assess the effects on water turbidity of interactions between crayfish ecosystem engineers differing in regenerative status and their fish predators.We demonstrated that crayfish limb loss and predation risks lead to more turbidity in field and mesocosm conditions.
