In response to rising levels of burnout and stress among pharmacy faculty, there is a growing call to reassess traditional approaches to productivity and well-being within the Academy. We introduce a "slower" approach to faculty work, one that advocates for a deliberate focus on quality over quantity and promoting sustainable practices that prioritize meaningful contributions and personal well-being. The aim of this commentary is to encourage pharmacy faculty to embrace a slow mindset while maintaining the ability to contribute meaningfully to the lives of their students, patients, colleagues, and the profession of pharmacy.

Article Synopsis
  • The Communities That HEAL (CTH) intervention aimed to boost naloxone distribution in communities severely affected by opioid overdoses compared to standard care.
  • A study involving 67 communities in Kentucky, Massachusetts, New York, and Ohio revealed that naloxone distribution was significantly higher (79% more) in the CTH intervention group than in the usual care group over a year of monitoring.
  • The findings suggest that the CTH intervention effectively increased naloxone distribution, supporting its role in reducing opioid-related overdose deaths.

Recent advances in therapy and the promulgation of multidisciplinary pulmonary embolism teams show great promise to improve management and outcomes of acute pulmonary embolism (PE). However, the absence of randomized evidence and lack of consensus leads to tremendous variations in treatment and compromises the wide implementation of new innovations. Moreover, the changing landscape of health care, where quality, cost, and accountability are increasingly relevant, dictates that a broad spectrum of outcomes of care must be routinely monitored to fully capture the impact of modern PE treatment.

Shared decision-making (SDM) and multidisciplinary team-based care delivery are recommended across several cardiology clinical practice guidelines. However, evidence for benefit and guidance on implementation are limited. Informed consent, the use of patient decision aids, or the documentation of these elements for governmental or societal agencies may be conflated as SDM.

Background: Daptomycin is a high-use intravenous antimicrobial agent affording the convenience of once-daily dosing. Prior studies suggest an opportunity to use a more operationally convenient fixed rather than weight-based dosing but this approach has not been studied prospectively.

Methods: This study quantified the probability of toxicity and efficacy end points by prospectively testing a fixed dose regimen of daptomycin (750 mg) in obese and non-obese adults.
