The cornea, the anterior meniscus-shaped transparent and refractive structure of the eyeball, is the first mechanical barrier of the eye. Its functionality heavily relies on the health of its endothelium, its most posterior layer. The treatment of corneal endothelial cells (CECs) deficiency is allogeneic corneal graft using stored donor corneas.

Background: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and represents a major public health problem. The current method for the diagnosis or screening of prostate cancer is invasive and costly. There have been renewed and innovative studies searching for urinary biomarkers to aid in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, especially with technologies based on urinary exosomes.

Background: The Emergency unit of the hospital (Department) (ED) is the fastest and most common way for most French general practitioners (GPs) to respond to the complexity of managing older adults patients with multiple chronic diseases. In 2013, French regional health authorities proposed to set up telephone hotlines to promote interactions between GP clinics and hospitals. The main objective of our study was to analyze whether the hotlines and solutions proposed by the responding geriatrician reduced the number of hospital admissions, and more specifically the number of emergency room admissions.

The interaction of multiple myeloma with bone marrow resident cells plays a key role in tumor progression and the development of drug resistance. The tumor cell response involves contact-mediated and paracrine interactions. The heterogeneity of myeloma cells and bone marrow cells makes it difficult to reproduce this environment in in-vitro experiments.

Objective: The objective of this study is twofold. First, we seek to understand the characteristics of the multimorbid population that needs hospital care by using all diagnoses information (ICD-10 codes) and two aggregated multimorbidity and frailty scores. Second, we use machine learning prediction models on these multimorbid patients characteristics to predict rehospitalization within 30 and 365 days and their length of stay.

Background: Structural and biochemical changes in stored platelets are influenced by collection and processing methods. This international study investigates the effects of platelet (PLT) processing and storage conditions on HMGB1, sCD40L, and sCD62P protein levels in platelet concentrate supernatants (PCs).
Study Design/methods: PC supernatants (n = 3748) were collected by each international centre using identical centrifugation methods (n = 9) and tested centrally using the ELISA/Luminex platform.

Background: Structural and biochemical changes in stored platelets are influenced by collection and processing methods. Lesions may appear during platelet concentrate storage, some of which may be involved in adverse transfusion reactions. The preparation and storage of platelet concentrates (PC) may modify and even damage the lipid mediator content.

Objective: [F]Fluorocholine positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is used frequently in addition to [Tc]Tc-Sestamibi scintigraphy and ultrasonography for the location of hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands. The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of quantitative criteria in [F]fluorocholine PET/CT for localization of hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands. The secondary objective is to highlight a correlation between the detection rate of [F]fluorocholine PET/CT and serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) level.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is known for its high drug resistance. The tumor-immune crosstalk mediated by the epigenetic regulation of N6-methyladenosine (mA) modification has been demonstrated in recent studies. Therefore, mA modification-mediated immune cell infiltration characteristics may be helpful to guide immunotherapy for ccRCC.

Background: Compared with the general population, childhood cancer survivors (CCS) could be at greater risk of psychological distress following the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Purpose: This cross-sectional study assessed the psychological consequences of COVID-19 on the mental health of CCS.
Design And Participants: In December 2020, we interviewed through an online self-report questionnaire, 580 5-year CCS participating in the French Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (FCCSS) cohort.

Purpose: During the COVID-19 pandemic, childhood cancer survivors (CCS) may have felt more at risk of having severe consequences of COVID-19 and therefore may have been more likely to defer their health care use. We aimed to assess the risk perceptions of CCS related to COVID-19 (perceived infection risk, perceived risk of experiencing a severe illness in the event of infection), and their forgoing of health care during the year 2020.
Methods: In December 2020, we interviewed through an online self-report questionnaire 580 5-year CCS participating in the French Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (FCCSS) cohort.

Evolution of mechanical and structural properties in the Ascending Thoracic Aorta (ATA) is the results of complex mechanobiological processes. In this work, we address some numerical challenges in order to elaborate computational models of these processes. For that, we extend the state of the art of homogenized constrained mixture (hCM) models.

Drug resistance is a significant challenge in the present treatment regimens of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Our previous study confirmed that nc886 functions as an oncogene in RCC. Nevertheless, the role and underlying mechanism of nc886 in RCC drug resistance are unclear.

Purpose: Exosomes could be released directly into the urine by the urological tumoral cells, so testing urinary exosomes has great potential for non-invasive diagnosis and monitor of urological tumors. The objective of this study is to systematically review and meta-analysis of urinary exosome for urological tumors diagnosis.
Materials And Methods: A systematic review of the recent English-language literature was conducted according to the PRISMA statement recommendations (CRD42021250613) using PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus databases up to April 30, 2021.

Cell-free DNA (cf-DNA) has been reported to represent a suitable material for liquid biopsy in the diagnosis and prognosis of various cancers. We performed a meta-analysis of published data to investigate the diagnostic value of cf-DNA for renal cancer (RCa). Systematic searches were conducted using Pubmed, Embase databases, Web of Science, Medline and Cochrane Library to identify relevant publications until the 31st March 2021.

Background: The objective of this extension phase of the quasi-experimental GERIA-COVID study was to determine whether vitamin D3 supplementation taken prior to or during COVID-19 was associated with better 3-month survival in geriatric patients hospitalized for COVID-19.
Methods: Intervention group was defined as all participants supplemented with vitamin D3 prior to or during COVID-19 (n = 67). Supplements were either bolus vitamin D3 (ie, 50,000 IU per month, or 80,000 IU or 100,000 IU or 200,000 IU every 2-3 months), or daily supplementation with 800 IU.

Vitamin D may be a central biological determinant of COVID-19 outcomes. The objective of this quasi-experimental study was to determine whether bolus vitamin D3 supplementation taken during or just before COVID-19 was effective in improving survival among frail elderly nursing-home residents with COVID-19. Sixty-six residents with COVID-19 from a French nursing-home were included in this quasi-experimental study.

Background: While middle antrostomy (MA) is the most common approach to the maxillary sinus (MS), it is known for not allowing to fully inspect the whole MS, especially in its inferior and anterior portions. To overcome this limitation, alternative approaches have been proposed, such as inferior antrotomy (IA) and canine fossa accesses (CFA).
Objective: Given the lack of studies on the MS floor visualization with different accesses, our study aims, in a cadaver lab setting, to systematically compare three different approaches (MA, IA and CFA) in these regards.
