"Chasing Rainbows" Beyond Kaposi Sarcoma's Dermoscopy: A Mini-Review.

Dermatopathology (Basel)

November 2024

Second Dermatology Department, School of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 54124 Thessaloniki, Greece.

The dermoscopic rainbow pattern (RP), also known as polychromatic pattern, is characterized by a multicolored appearance, resulting from the dispersion of polarized light as it penetrates various tissue components. Its separation into different wavelengths occurs according to the physics principles of scattering, absorption, and interference of light, creating the optical effect of RP. Even though the RP is regarded as a highly specific dermoscopic indicator of Kaposi's sarcoma, in the medical literature, it has also been documented as an atypical dermoscopic finding of other non-Kaposi skin entities.

Detailed DFT studies of H and C NMR chemical shifts of hydroxy secondary oxidation products of various geometric isomers of conjugated linolenic acids methyl esters are presented. Several low energy conformers were identified for model compounds of the central dienenol OH moiety, which were found to be practically independent on the various functionals and basis sets used. This greatly facilitated the minimization process of the geometric isomers of conjugated linolenic acids methyl esters.

The solvation structure and dynamics of the thiocyanate anion at infinite dilution in mixed N, N-Dimethylformamide (DMF)-water liquid solvents was studied using classical molecular dynamics simulation techniques. The results obtained have indicated a preferential solvation of the thiocyanate anions by the water molecules, due to strong hydrogen bonding interactions between the anion and water molecules. A first hydration shell at short intermolecular distances is formed around the SCN anion consisting mainly by water molecules, followed by a second shell consisting by both DMF and water molecules.

Conservative treatment of clavicle fractures has the disadvantage of substantial pain and discomfort, whereas internal fixation of these fractures has a high rate of non-union. External fixation is an alternative method permitting early mobilization without disrupting the surrounding soft tissue envelope. These are extremely beneficial in young, athletic and highly functional patients as well as in patients with comminuted fractures.

Developing MYC Degraders Bearing the Von Hippel-Lindau Ligand to Target the "Undruggable" MYC.

ACS Pharmacol Transl Sci

December 2024

Vasiliki Sarli - Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University Campus, Thessaloniki 54124, Greece.

Although small-molecule inhibitors with moderate efficacy targeting MYC have been previously described, to this point, research efforts have failed to bring a suitable small-molecule MYC inhibitor to the clinic. Herein, the discovery of a series of novel MYC degraders bearing VHL to target the "undruggable" MYC is presented. The molecules are based on connecting a known MYC binder to a VHL ligand or pomalidomide to induce MYC degradation in various cancer cells known to express MYC.
