Background And Purpose: Cotrimoxazole, a commonly prescribed antibiotic, has substantial resistance, especially in Indonesia, with its uropathogenic resistance reaching 67% in 2017. Although cotrimoxazole has been suggested to be co-administered with lactoferrin to enhance its antibacterial effectiveness and this practice has been widely adopted since the Covid-19 pandemic, the impact of lactoferrin on the pharmacokinetics of cotrimoxazole remains relatively unknown. This study aims to conduct a preliminary clinical investigation into the impact of lactoferrin supplementation on the pharmacokinetics of cotrimoxazole, focusing on the elimination rate and excretion of unchanged drug in urine.

Background: The increasing accumulation of plastic waste is the most serious threat to the marine ecosystem. People who still have the habit of disposing of solid waste, especially plastic-type waste, in the marine environment have led to the discovery of microplastic content in various marine biota such as fish and shellfish. We aimed to assess the environmental health risks of microplastics due to consumption of marine life in the coastal area.

Statins, such as lovastatin, have been known to inhibit 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. Statins were reported to moderately suppress hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication in cultured cells harboring HCV RNA replicons. We report here using an HCV cell culture (HCVcc) system that high concentrations of lovastatin (5-20 μg/mL) markedly enhanced the release of HCV infectious particles (virion) in the culture supernatants by up to 40 times, without enhancing HCV RNA replication, HCV protein synthesis, or HCV virion assembly in the cells.

Unlabelled: Colorimetric reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) is a potential and relatively simple rapid diagnostics method for COVID-19 detection. This study aims to evaluate and optimize the RT-LAMP performance on saliva specimens based on a commercially available kit.Modifications on an established protocol (Protocol A) were used, including Proteinase K supplementation (Protocol B); pre-treatment using nuclease-free water and proteinase K (Protocol C); Saliva cooling (Protocol D); saliva dilution after pre-treatment (Protocol E); lastly a combination of saliva cooling and dilution (Protocol F).

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are proteins that play a role in the inflammatory and remodeling processes caused by infections, including pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), especially multidrug resistance. This study aims to investigate the relationship between variations in MMP-1 and MMP-9 blood levels, cavity features such as number, diameter, and wall thickness, and the location of fibrosis in multidrug-resistant (MDR) and drug-sensitive (DS) tuberculosis patients. This study used a comparative cross-sectional study design.

The avian influenza virus is an infectious agent that may cause global health problems in poultry and is potentially zoonotic. In the recent decades, bacterial-derived sialidases have been extensively studied for their ability to inhibit avian influenza virus infections. In this study, the antiviral activity of NanB sialidase from was investigated through analysis using Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells.

Objective: To study associations between fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and asthma, airway symptoms, sensitization to common allergens, outdoor pollution and home environment among 380 students in eight junior high schools in two areas in Indonesia.
Methods: Data on health and home were collected by a face-to face interview before measuring FeNO and performing skin prick test against common allergens. Exploratory linear mixed and logistic regression models were employed.

Estimating the post-mortem interval (PMI) is an essential step in forensic investigations, particularly those involving homicides and unwitnessed deaths. However, traditional methods occasionally yield inconsistent estimates. Histological and molecular techniques are considered crucial in forensic pathology and are frequently employed to estimate the time interval of death.

Mobile gaming poses significant health risks, such as musculoskeletal (MSK) and eye problems, as players maintain the same posture for long periods. The objective of the current study is to describe the prevalence and assess the association of musculoskeletal and eye problems among professional gamers (PG) and casual gamers (CG) with their physical activity level and physical fitness. A total of 94 mobile-gaming athletes (43 PG, 51 CG) were prospectively recruited in this study.

Hookworm infection remains a significant public health concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, where mass drug administration has not stopped reinfection. Developing a vaccine is crucial to complement current control measures, which necessitates a thorough understanding of host immune responses. By leveraging controlled human infection models and high-dimensional immunophenotyping, here we investigated the immune remodeling following infection with 50 Necator americanus L3 hookworm larvae in four naïve volunteers over two years of follow-up and compared the profiles with naturally infected populations in endemic areas.

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a significant issue in orthopedic surgery. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) have been identified as potential causes of PJI; however, evidence is inconclusive. Understanding these relationships is critical for improving therapy and patient outcomes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the lives, health, and social well-being of people globally including presenting special challenges in low to middle income countries for people living with HIV. This study investigates the pandemic experiences of the four key HIV-positive populations in Indonesia: men who have sex with men, transgender women, female sex workers, and people who use drugs. In-depth interviews were conducted with a convenience sample of 22 key population members recruited through 9 nongovernment HIV agencies in Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia.
