A systematic map of evidence on the relationship between agricultural production and biodiversity in tropical rainforest areas.

Environ Evid

June 2024

Center for Climate and Sustainable Finance (CCSF), Institute for Sustainable Earth and Resources, University of Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia.

Background: The tropical rainforest biome plays a significant role in providing habitats for terrestrial biodiversity and delivering ecosystem service values, contributing to agricultural production. However, the increasing demand for tropical commodities with high economic value threatens this humid ecosystem and its biodiversity. To our knowledge, no studies have systematically mapped the relationship between the impacts of agricultural production on biodiversity and the effects of biodiversity on agricultural production in tropical rainforest areas.

Article Synopsis
  • Lemierre's syndrome involves septic thrombophlebitis in the internal jugular vein and was observed in a 57-year-old woman with a history of untreated dental infection.
  • Upon examination, she exhibited increased blood pressure and a painful, swollen neck, which was confirmed by ultrasound and CT scan showing a thrombus in the right internal jugular vein.
  • Treatment primarily includes antibiotics; in this case, the patient was treated conservatively with both antibiotics and anticoagulants, leading to significant improvement in her condition.

Endosc Int Open

September 2024

Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and Excellence Center for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand.

Article Synopsis
  • The 2013 Asia-Pacific consensus on managing hilar cholangiocarcinoma was updated due to new evidence regarding endoscopic treatment for malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO).
  • A review of literature using a PICO framework led to the creation of consensus statements and key concepts, with expert approval through the modified Delphi method.
  • The final recommendations address diagnosis, biliary drainage strategies, recurrent obstruction management, cholecystitis post-stenting, and pre-stenting treatments, but emphasize that they should complement, not replace, multidisciplinary decisions for individual patients.

The conceptualisation of cardiometabolic disease policy model in the UK.

BMC Health Serv Res

September 2024

Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HEHTA), School of Health and Wellbeing, University of Glasgow, Clarice Pears Building, 90 Byres Road, Glasgow, G12 8TB, UK.

Background: Decision models are increasingly used to inform policy-making processes, and there is a need to improve their credibility. The estimation of health and economic outcomes generated from decision models is influenced by the development process itself. This paper aims to present the conceptual model development process of cardiometabolic disease (CMD) policy models in the UK setting.

Efficacy and safety of rucaparib in patients with recurrent high-grade ovarian carcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Taiwan J Obstet Gynecol

September 2024

Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Padjadjaran University, Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Jl. Pasteur No.38, Pasteur, Bandung, West Java, 40161, Indonesia.

Ovarian cancer stands as the third most prevalent gynecological malignancy. The advent of PARP inhibitors, particularly rucaparib, has revolutionized the landscape of advanced ovarian cancer treatment, demonstrating notable efficacy with minimal toxicity, especially in patients not previously exposed to PARP inhibitors. Rucaparib's precision-driven approach, targeting specific genetic mutations, disrupts DNA repair mechanisms, resulting in cytotoxic effects on neoplastic cells.

Increasing global palm oil production yields a valuable palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) - a rich vitamin E (Vit-E) source and multifunctional ingredient in the food agro-industry - that can be utilized to achieve sustainability. This article reviews trends in the use and role of PFAD and its Vit-E in the food sector and proposes an integrated agro-industrial concept toward sustainability. Vit-E can be separated from PFAD with diverse and impactful pharmaceutical activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and anti-ultraviolet effects.

A rare case report: The value of fetal MRI to detect diprosopus twins.

Radiol Case Rep

November 2024

Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, Jl. Lingkar Kampus Raya Universitas, Depok, West Java 16424, Indonesia.

Diprosopus is one of the rarest types of conjoined twins, caused by incomplete zygote separation in early pregnancy. It defines a condition with duplication of facial structures, monocephalic and 1 trunk. Early detection is difficult, but fetal MRI plays an important role in strengthening antenatal diagnosis of conjoined twin pregnancies and other major congenital abnormalities, complementing antenatal ultrasonography.

  • Active venous leg ulcers (VLU) are a serious form of chronic venous disease that drastically impact patients' health and quality of life, prompting economic concerns due to the need for treatment.* ! -
  • The study describes three patients with active VLUs treated through endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), which involved using specific laser energy protocols to target severe great saphenous vein reflux.
  • Follow-up results showed significant healing of the ulcers and reduced venous clinical severity scores, indicating that EVLA is a safe and effective treatment for patients with VLUs.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, behavioural scientists aimed to illuminate reasons why people comply with (or not) large-scale cooperative activities. Here we investigated the motives that underlie support for COVID-19 preventive behaviours in a sample of 12,758 individuals from 34 countries. We hypothesized that the associations of empathic prosocial concern and fear of disease with support towards preventive COVID-19 behaviours would be moderated by trust in the government.

Introduction: To improve the capacity of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) patients for self-management of wound care, there is a renewed need for self-care on their part, as well as an increase in their readiness to deal with issues and heal their wounds. Therefore, this review empirically assessed contemporary evidence on how patients with DFU can perform self-treat wound care.

Methods: This integrative literature review assessed how patients with DFU could perform self-treat wound care.

Using a simple drop-casting technique, we successfully fabricated a sensitive electrochemical sensor based on the composite of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) deposited on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for individual and simultaneous measurements of hydroquinone (HQ), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA). The nanocomposite of RGO/MWCNT was further characterized in terms of its structural properties, surface morphology, and topography using Raman, FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, HRTEM, and AFM. Then, the proposed sensor for simultaneous measurement of HQ, DA, and UA based on RGO/MWCNT-modified GCE was investigated for its electrochemical behavior and electroanalytical performances using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV).

Obesity has become a global issue that affects the emergence of various chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, dysplasia, heart disorders, and cancer. In this study, an integration method was developed between the metabolite profile of the active compound of Murraya paniculata and the exploration of the targeting mechanism of adipose tissue using network pharmacology, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and in vitro tests. Network pharmacology results obtained with the skyline query technique using a block-nested loop (BNL) showed that histone acetyltransferase p300 (EP300), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PPARGC1A) are potential targets for treating obesity.
