Objective: Methods to improve stress and well-being for health profession trainees are limited. Mindfulness, elevating awareness to the present moment experience with compassion, has been shown to demonstrate effectiveness to enhance well-being. This research leverages techniques from mindfulness to develop and evaluate a credit-bearing longitudinal mindfulness elective, designed to teach mindfulness to improve stress and quality of life (QoL).

Background And Purpose: Social determinants of health (SDOH) are non-medical factors that may contribute to the development of diseases, with a higher representation in underserved populations. Our objective is to determine the association of unfavorable SDOH with self-reported stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) and vascular risk factors (VRFs) among Hispanic/Latino adults living in the US.

Methods: We used cross-sectional data from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos.

Chondrodysplasia punctata (CDP) is a rare congenital syndrome characterized by aberrant, punctate deposition of calcium during endochondral bone formation, resulting in the characteristic finding of epiphyseal stippling on radiographs. While otolaryngologic manifestations such as nasomaxillary hypoplasia and mixed hearing loss are common, tracheobronchial calcification occurs rarely in neonates with CDP. The management of CDP-related airway stenosis is complex and there is limited literature pertaining to outcomes of airway interventions.

: Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) has received significant media coverage as a major health concern for collision sport athletes and combat veterans. This survey study investigated neuropsychologists' perspectives of CTE. Neuropsychologists ( = 325) were contacted electronic advertisement posted to popular neuropsychology professional listservs and completed a survey regarding their perspectives of: the proposed sequelae of repeated concussions, the strength of the CTE research base, and its media coverage.

Work-Life Balance and Academic Productivity Among College of Medicine Faculty During the Evolution of the COVID-19 Pandemic: The New Normal.

Background: Work and home stress, productivity, and self-care of academic medicine faculty in Spring 2021 was contrasted to faculty's experience in the Spring of 2020, both of which were relatively compared with the prepandemic period.

Methods: A 93-question survey was sent to academic medicine faculty at an urban public university medical center in March 2020 and again in March 2021. Demographic, family, and academic characteristics, work distribution and productivity before and during the pandemic, perceived stress related to work and home activities, and self-care data compared with the prepandemic period were collected.

Background: In patients with heart failure (HF), randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of sodium-glucose transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2is) have proven to be effective in decreasing the primary composite outcome of cardiovascular death and hospitalizations for HF. A recently published meta-analysis showed that the use of SGLT-2is among women with diabetes resulted in less reduction in primary composite outcomes compared with men. This study aims to explore potential sex differences in primary composite outcomes among patients with HF treated with SGLT-2is.

Introduction: The use of entrustable professional activities (EPAs) as a basis for assessment may bridge the gap between the theory of competency-based education and clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate EPAs for United States (US) first-year clinical anesthesia (CA-1) residents for anesthesiology residency programs to use as the basis for curriculum development and workplace assessment.

Dysphagia outcomes in COVID-19 patients: experiences in long-term acute care hospital (LTACH).

Purpose: Long term acute care hospitals (LTACHs) saw a significant increase in COVID-19 patients with prolonged acute illness recovery. Speech language pathologists (SLP) in LTACHs were integral in assessing swallowing and providing rehabilitation for dysphagia, however, there is limited research on LTACHs and dysphagia. Our aim was to describe this unique dysphagia management experience to improve future patient care.

Hepatic Encephalopathy after Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Creation.

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) creation is effective in treating the sequelae of decompensated liver cirrhosis-including medically refractory ascites and variceal bleeding-by decompressing the portal venous system through a manmade portosystemic conduit within the liver. However, the altered physiology in which splenomesenteric blood bypasses intrahepatic portal venous perfusion can precipitate varying degrees of hepatic encephalopathy (HE). While the majority of post-TIPS HE cases can be treated medically, some require escalated management strategies, including endovascular interventions to modify the indwelling TIPS and/or occlude competitive physiologic spontaneous portosystemic shunts.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore women's birthing preferences and the motivational and contextual factors that influence their preferences in Benin City, Nigeria, so as to better understand the low rates of healthcare facility usage during childbirth.

Setting: Two primary care centres, a community health centre and a church within Benin City, Nigeria.
