While endoscopic approaches to the spine have become increasingly utilized for spinal degenerative disease, there is a paucity of literature regarding the role of endoscopic approaches in spinal oncology. The endoscopic approach offers patients lower risk of wound infection, wound dehiscence, and postoperative hematoma when compared with an open approach. In many spinal oncology patients, an endoscopic approach allows for prompt postoperative radiation when compared with an open approach.

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) following cardiovascular surgery has been shown to increase costs and overall morbidity and mortality. The incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of AKI following other types of major surgeries have not been as well characterized. We sought to study the incidence of AKI following cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) per the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) criteria.

Background: Hepatoid Carcinoma of the Ovary (HCO) is a rare subtype of ovarian cancers where malignant cells undergo hepatoid metamorphic changes and cytologically resemble hepatocytes. There are many case reports of HCO in the literature, and patients with these tumors are almost uniformly treated with palliative debulking and conventional adjuvant chemotherapy. To our knowledge, there is only one case report of HCO complicated by peritoneal dissemination that was treated with cytoreductive surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS plus HIPEC), followed by adjuvant chemotherapy.

Importance: Patients with intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD) using a home monitoring device have less loss of visual acuity, on average, at detection of choroidal neovascularization than do individuals using standard care monitoring techniques. Understanding the frequency with which patients are likely to initiate using a home monitoring device successfully is important in planning implementation of the device into practice.

Objectives: To determine the frequency with which patients with intermediate AMD qualify to use a home monitoring device and to establish a reliable baseline reference value with the device to monitor their AMD for progression to choroidal neovascularization.

Introduction: Hypotony maculopathy is ocular hypotony complicated by papilledema and/or folding of the retina and choroid in the posterior pole. Our objective was to examine the current literature regarding hypotony maculopathy and treatment methods.

Methods: A systematic review of the English-language literature was conducted by performing a broad search of PubMed from 1972 through 2015 using the keywords hypotony maculopathy and hypotony.

The Boston type 1 keratoprosthesis (KPro) is the most commonly used artificial cornea worldwide. Long-term bandage contact lenses are the standard of care for patients with these devices. The goal of bandage contact lenses is to maintain hydration and to protect the corneal tissue that surrounds the anterior plate of the keratoprosthesis which is vulnerable to desiccation, epithelial breakdown, dellen formation, and corneal melt.

Background: Regadenoson is predominantly renally metabolized. Patients with severe chronic kidney disease (CKD) experience more frequent gastrointestinal adverse effects (AE) from regadenoson. Aminophylline use following regadenoson reduces the incidence of regadenoson-related AE.

Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is frequently associated with multiple headache types. While the efficacy of orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) intervention for TMD with/without headache symptoms has been investigated, it has received less attention than other musculoskeletal conditions. This case describes the OMPT treatment and outcome of a 14 year-old female with a 2-year history of facial pain surrounding the right temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and bilateral occipital and temporal tension-type headaches (TTHs).

Regadenoson is a selective adenosine A2A-receptor agonist, used as a pharmacological stress agent for myocardial perfusion imaging. It is associated with frequent adverse effects (AEs), particularly among individuals younger than 65 years of age and women. Intravenous aminophylline administration following regadenoson, as described in the ASSUAGE trial, reduces the incidence of AE.
