Retroperitoneal teratomas are rare neoplasms in neonates, presenting with nonspecific symptoms and variable clinical features, making diagnosis challenging. Radiological investigations, particularly fetal ultrasound and contrast-enhanced computed tomography, play a critical role in their detection. Differential diagnoses include neuroblastoma, adrenal hemorrhage, and congenital cystic lesions, which share overlapping clinical and imaging features.

Meconium peritonitis (MP) as a cause of non-immune hydrops in neonates is rarely reported. We present a case of a 35-week gestational-age male neonate diagnosed with hydrops secondary to MP. Antenatal scan at 34 weeks and five days revealed features of fetal hydrops, and the prenatal workup did not reveal the etiology.

Introduction: Virtual reality models (VRM) are three-dimensional (3D) simulations of two-dimensional (2D) images, creating a more accurate mental representation of patient-specific anatomy.

Methods: Patients were retrospectively identified who underwent complex oncologic resections whose operations differed from preoperative plans between April 2018 and April 2019. Virtual reality modeling was performed based on preoperative 2D images to assess feasibility of use of this technology to create models.

Idiopathic nutritional deficiencies are often overlooked in patients with no history of malabsorption. However, it may lead to severe neurologic dysfunction that can sometimes be irreversible. We present a case in which early recognition of copper deficiency has led to a better outcome for the patient, who presented with acute myeloneuropathy.

The PPV23 immunizes healthy elderly and other high-risk populations against pneumococcal disease. Immune mechanisms whereby these populations differently mount antibody(Ab) and cellular responses to PPV23 vaccination remain unknown. Here, healthy elderly, those elderly with prior tuberculosis-cured history (TB-cured), and HIV-infected humans were vaccinated with PPV23, and assessed for opsonophagocytic Ab responses and potential cellular mechanisms.

Circulating IGF bioactivity is reduced under a variety of conditions where anabolism is impaired. Serum IGF binding activity is increased in acutely diabetic animals and is regulated according to insulin status. Alterations in serum IGF binding activity reflects, at least in part, changes in circulating levels of IGFBP-1, suggesting that IGFBP-1 is an important modulator of IGF availability in post-natal life.
