Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) of Acinetobacter baumannii DS002 carry proteins which perform selective biological functions. The proteins involved in cell wall/membrane biogenesis and inorganic ion transport and metabolism occupied a significant portion of the 302 proteins associated with OMVs. Interestingly, the TonB-dependent transporters (TonRs), linked to the active transport of nutrients across the energy-deprived outer membrane, are predominant among proteins involved in inorganic ion transport and metabolism.

The homologous recombination (HR) pathway has been implicated as the predominant mechanism for the repair of chromosomal DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) of the malarial parasite. Although the extrachromosomal mitochondrial genome of this parasite experiences a greater number of DSBs due to its close proximity to the electron transport chain, nothing is known about the proteins involved in the repair of the mitochondrial genome. We investigated the involvement of nucleus-encoded HR proteins in the repair of the mitochondrial genome, as this genome does not code for any DNA repair proteins.

Pigeon pea, a legume crop native to India, is the primary source of protein for more than a billion people in developing countries. The plant can form symbioses with N-fixing bacteria; however, reports of poor crop nodulation in agricultural soils abound. We report here a study of the bacterial community associated with pigeon pea, with a special focus on the symbiont population in different soils and vegetative and non-vegetative plant growth.
