Sugar mimics are valuable tools in medicinal chemistry, offering the potential to overcome the limitations of carbohydrate inhibitors, such as poor pharmacokinetics and non-selectivity. In our continued efforts to develop heterocyclic galectin-1 inhibitors, we report the synthesis and characterization of thiazole-linked coumarin piperazine hybrids (10a-10i) as Gal-1 inhibitors. The compounds were characterized using H NMR, C NMR and HRMS.

However, realizing multi-functional properties in triaryl boron-based materials remains challenging. Herein, we present two regioisomers, 1 and 2, designed judiciously by connecting a dimethylamino donor and a dimesitylboryl acceptor at 1,4 and 2,6-positions of the naphthalene spacer, respectively.

Introduction: Glomerular podocytes are specialized epithelial cells localized to the blood-urine interface of the kidney. Podocyte slit-diaphragm (SD), a size-and-charge-selective junction, is instrumental in blood ultrafiltration and the formation of protein-free urine. The SD consists of macromolecular complexes of several proteins, such as nephrin, podocin, and CD2-associated protein (CD2AP).

Background And Aims: Induced prismatic effects due to poor fitting spectacle frames is a common problem, seen in most of the spectacle wearers and this improper fitting is often due to optical center demarcation on lenses and this error causes asthenopic symptoms and diplopia. However, these errors are most common in developing countries due to lack of awareness, hence a standardized regulation is required. The current study aimed to estimate the amount of prismatic effect that is induced due to the decentration of an optical center in ophthalmic lens.

The basic structural symmetry was investigated and phase identification of the prepared samples was carried out by analyzing powder X-ray diffraction data through the widely used "POWDMULT" software. From the XRD pattern [Fig.

Recent assessments alarmingly indicate that many of the world's leading chemicals are transgressing one or more of the nine planetary boundaries, which define safe operating spaces within which humanity can continue to develop and thrive for generations to come. The unfolding crisis cannot be ignored and there is a once-in-a-century opportunity for chemistry - the science of transformation of matter - to make a critical difference to the future of people and planet. How can chemists contribute to meeting these challenges and restore stability and strengthen resilience to the planetary system that humanity needs for its survival? To respond to the wake-up call, three crucial steps are outlined: (1) urgently working to understand the nature of the looming threats, from a chemistry perspective; (2) harnessing the ingenuity and innovation that are central to the practice of chemistry to develop sustainable solutions; and (3) transforming chemistry itself, in education, research and industry, to re-position it as 'chemistry for sustainability' and lead the stewardship of the world's chemical resources.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are small membrane-bound particles, which include exosomes, micro vesicles (MVs) and various-sized vesicles, released by healthy and diseased cells. EVs also include other vesicular structures, such as large apoptotic bodies (1-5 μm), as well as membrane particles (50-80 nm) originating from the plasma membrane. However, exosomes are nanosize (≈30-100 nm) extracellular vesicles of endocytic origin that are bud-off by most types of cells and circulate in bodily fluids.

"de Vries" liquid crystals, defined by a maximum layer shrinkage of ≤1% from the smectic A to C phase transition, are an integral component of ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) displays. Bona fide de Vries materials described in the literature are primarily perfluorinated, polysiloxane and polysilane-terminated rod-like (or calamitic) LCs. Herein, for the first time, we report a series of newly designed achiral unsymmetrical bent-core molecules with terminal alkoxy chains exhibiting similar properties to "de Vries" LCs.

The coordination of the sulfoximine pyridyl-motif and the chiral amino acid MPAA ligand to the Pd(ii)-catalyst controls the -discriminating C(aryl)-H activation. This method provides access to a wide range of enantiomerically enriched unreacted aryl-pyridyl-sulfoximine precursors and C(aryl)-H alkenylation/arylation products in good yields with high enantioselectivity (up to >99% ee), and selectivity factor up to >200.

Despite the impressive efficacies demonstrated in preclinical research, hundreds of potentially neuroprotective drugs have failed to provide effective neuroprotection for ischemic stroke in human clinical trials. Lack of a powerful animal model for human ischemic stroke could be a major reason for the failure to develop successful neuroprotective drugs for ischemic stroke. This review recapitulates the available cerebral ischemia animal models, provides an anatomical comparison of the circle of Willis of each species, and describes the functional assessment tests used in these ischemic stroke models.

Sulfur (S), nitrogen (N), and ,'-C-H bonds of aryl thioamides are involved in this reaction, enabling access to rare 6,6-fused thiopyrano-isoquinoline derivatives. A reverse 'S' coordination over a more conventional 'N' coordination of thioamides to the Co-catalyst specifically regulates the formation of four [C-C and C-S at first and then C-N and C-C] bonds in a single operation, a concept which is uncovered for the first time.

We report the fabrication and performance evaluation of cost-effective, reproducible silver nanodendrite (AgND) substrates, possessing high-density trunks and branches, achieved by a simple electroless etching process and subsequently utilized them for the trace detection of 1,3,5-trinitroperhydro-1,3,5-triazine (Research Development Explosive, RDX) and Ammonium Nitrate (AN). The intricate structural features in AgNDs offer high-density hotspots for effective molecular detection based on the surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique. The active SERS-substrate was initially tested with standard Rhodamine 6G (R6G) molecules at 1 nM concentration, which established an effective enhancement factor (EF) of ∼10.

Among the breast cancers, triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) has relatively poor outcomes with a lower survival rate and personalised chemotherapy is the only option available for treatment. Currently in the biomedical domain, nanomaterials with porous morphology have revealed their tremendous possibilities to be used as a nanocarrier in treating cancer by offering void space to encapsulate/entrap biological agents. However, the development of nanocarrier-based targeted therapy with high therapeutic efficacy and fewer side effects to normal cells is always a challenge.

Despite the recent surge of interest in two-dimensional (2D) inorganic nanosheets derived from photoactive coordination polymers of lanthanide ions having interesting optical properties, research in this area is still in its infancy. Luminescent lanthanide ions, Eu(iii) or/and Tb(iii), as well as a bis-terpyridine ligand (L), were used in this study as the building blocks for the synthesis of the archetypical layered structure of coordination polymers (CPs) (L·Eu/L·Tb). 2D-nanosheets were obtained through exfoliation of the layered precursor of CPs in a suitable solvent system following a sonication-assisted strategy.

This work reports new findings on the formation of a pearl-necklace pattern in self-assembled upconverting nanocrystals (UCN-PNs) which exhibit strong upconversion emission under an NIR excitation source of a femtosecond laser (Fs-laser). Each nano-necklace consists of several upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) having a size 10 ± 1 nm. UCN-PNs are arranged in a self-organized manner to form necklace type chains with an average length of 140 nm of a single row of nanoparticles.
