Angiogenic Activity and Mechanism for Bisphenols on Endothelial Cell and Mouse: Evidence of a Structural-Selective Effect.

Environ Sci Technol

August 2023

Key Laboratory of Environment Remediation and Ecological Health, Ministry of Education, College of Environmental and Resource Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310058, China.

Increased epidemiological evidence indicates the association of bisphenol exposure with human vascular disorders, while the underlying mechanism has not been clarified. Here, we sought to unveil the potential angiogenic effect and the underlying mechanism of bisphenols with different structural features using endothelial cells treated with an environmentally relevant concentration of bisphenols (range: 1 nM to 10 μM) and a C57BL/6 mouse model fed with doses of 0.002, 0.

Importance: American Indian/Alaska Native veterans experience a high risk for health inequities, including mental health (MH) care access. Rapid virtualization of MH care in response to the COVID-19 pandemic facilitated care continuity across the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), but the association between virtualization of care and health inequities among American Indian/Alaska Native veterans is unknown.

Objective: To examine differences in video telehealth (VTH) use for MH care between American Indian/Alaska Native and non-American Indian/Alaska Native veterans by rurality and urbanicity.

Key Laboratory of Quality and Safety Control for Subtropical Fruit and Vegetable, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Collaborative Innovation Center for Efficient and Green Production of Agriculture in Mountainous Areas of Zhejiang Province, College of Horticulture Science, Zhejiang A&F University, Wusu Road 666, Hangzhou, 311300, Zhejiang, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the role of GH9 genes in the formation of the fruit abscission zone in Vaccinium ashei (rabbiteye blueberries), highlighting their importance in plant growth.
  • Researchers identified 61 VaGH9 genes, classifying them into 3 subclasses and analyzing their relationships with GH9s in other plants, revealing a closer connection to Populus L.
  • Transcriptomic analysis showed that 22 of these genes are differentially expressed during the fruit abscission process, particularly VaGH9B2 and VaGH9C10, which may play key roles in the separation of the fruit from the plant during maturation.

As a task force appointed by the Executive Council of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), we investigated the clinical use of contingent electric skin shock (CESS) in behavior analytic treatments for severe problem behavior. We studied how CESS is used in contemporary behavior analysis, reinforcement-based alternatives to CESS, and current ethical and professional guidelines for applied behavior analysts. We recommended that ABAI uphold clients' right to receive CESS when it is restricted to extreme cases and used under rigorous professional and legal oversight.

Evidence presented in the ABAI Task Force Report on Contingent Electric Skin Shock (CESS) revealed serious ethical, clinical, and practical problems with the contemporary use of CESS. As a member of the task force, I ultimately concluded that our recommended position statement ("Position A") was a misguided attempt to uphold the field's commitment to client choice. Furthermore, information gathered by the task force supports an urgent call to find solutions to two additional troubling issues: a severe shortage of treatment services for severe problem behavior and the near-absence of research on treatment-resistant behavior.

Embryonic Exposure to UV-328 Impairs the Cell Cycle in Zebrafish () by Inhibiting the p38 MAPK/p53/Gadd45a Signaling Pathway.

Environ Sci Technol

July 2023

State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100085, China.

The benzotriazole UV stabilizer UV-328 is well known for its potent antioxidative properties; however, there are concerns about how it may affect signaling nodes and lead to negative consequences. This study identified the key signaling cascades involved in oxidative stress in zebrafish () larvae and evaluated the cell cycle arrests and associated developmental alternations. Exposure to UV-328 at 0.

Introduction: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEis) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) are frequently discontinued in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Documented adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in medical records may provide insight into the reasons for treatment discontinuation.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort of US veterans from 2005 to 2019, we identified individuals with CKD and a current prescription for an ACEi or ARB (current user group) or a discontinued prescription within the preceding 5 years (discontinued group).

HIV/AIDS prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa remains an issue of concern and young women are disproportionately affected by the disease. Premarital HIV testing is one of the key strategies used in HIV prevention since heterosexual sex remains the primary mode of HIV transmission in sub-Saharan Africa. This study uses the 2016 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey to examine the association between premarital HIV testing and the ability to negotiate sexual relations among married women aged 15 to 49 years (N = 3,672).

Background: Following natural disasters, early helping behavior often dissipates despite remaining disaster-related suffering and affective vulnerability in the community. Interventions that have successfully increased helping behaviors have included components of motivational interviewing (MI) and mindful compassion; however, this research is limited by laboratory-based settings and lengthy training sessions. Brief, portable, and efficient intervention is needed to increase accessibility to large groups simultaneously.

Synchronous schedules of reinforcement are those in which the onset and offset of a reinforcer are synchronized with the onset and offset of a target behavior. The current study replicated and extended Diaz de Villegas et al. (2020) by comparing synchronous reinforcement to noncontingent stimulus delivery while evaluating on-task behavior of school-age children.

Background: Black patients are at a higher risk of experiencing less safe and lower quality care during pregnancy and childbirth, compared to their White counterparts. Behaviors that healthcare professionals engage in that can facilitate or hinder high-quality care for this population are underexplored. We sought to explore Black patients' experiences with healthcare professionals during and after pregnancy, as a needs assessment to inform the development of training for healthcare professionals.

This paper presents a parameterizable design generator on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) using the Chisel hardware construction language (HCL). By parameterizing structural designs such as the streaming width, pooling layer type, and floating point precision, multiple register-transfer level (RTL) implementations can be created to meet various accuracy and hardware cost requirements. The evaluation is based on generated RTL designs including 16-bit, 32-bit, 64-bit, and 128-bit implementations on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

Electronic address:

Okra pods have been utilized as a functional food due to their rich active ingredient composition, especially the high content of flavonoid compounds. This study conducted near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) modeling optimization and external validation based on the flavonoid components of 219 pod samples. Spectral correlation analyses identified two types of spectral response patterns classified as quercetin-3-O-xylose (1-2) glucoside (QOXG) and total flavonoid content (TFC), consisting of six different spectral regions.

While there is strong evidence for the psychometric reliability of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule-Expanded Form (PANAS-X) in cross-sectional studies, the between- and within-person psychometric performance of the PANAS-X in an intensive longitudinal framework is less understood. As affect is thought to be dynamic and responsive to context, this study investigated the multilevel reliability of PANAS-X Positive Affect, Negative Affect, Fear, Sadness, and Hostility scales. Generalizability theory and structural equation modeling techniques (coefficient ω) were employed in four ecological momentary assessment samples ( = 309; 41,261 reports).
