In the context of rapid global aging, the importance of age-friendly community environments for promoting healthy aging and "aging in place" continues to increase. Using data from the 2011-2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, this study investigated the impact of an age-friendly community environment on the age trajectories of late-life long-term care (LTC) dependency among older Chinese adults aged 60+ years. Age-friendly community environments were defined according to three levels (poor, moderate, or good) based on the World Health Organization's age-friendly city and community framework, and LTC dependency was classified as level 1 (high), level 2 (medium), or level 3 (low) according to activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living scores.

Sterols are produced via complex, multistep biosynthetic pathways involving similar enzymatic conversions in plants, animals and fungi, yielding a variety of sterol metabolites with slightly different chemical properties to exert diverse and specific functions. A tremendously diverse landscape of sterols, and sterol-derived compounds, can be found across the plant kingdom, determining a wide spectrum of functions. Resolving the underlying biosynthetic pathways is thus instrumental to understanding the function and use of these molecules.

Methoxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (MeO-BDEs) are a class of environmentally relevant halogenated natural products. The two most relevant isomers, 2'-MeO-BDE 68 and 6-MeO-BDE 47, were repeatedly detected at levels comparable with persistent organic pollutants in marine environmental and food samples. MeO-BDEs were suspected to be biosynthesized by bromoperoxidases through the merging of two bromophenol units, three of which (2,4-dibromophenol, 2,6-dibromophenol and 2,4,6-tribromophenol) are abundant in marine environments, followed by O-methylation to give MeO-BDEs.
