Article Synopsis
  • Genomic imprinting is a process where certain genes are expressed based on which parent they come from, with the SGCE/PEG10 locus being a key area of study in mammals.
  • This research examined 14 genes in the bovine SGCE/PEG10 region, discovering that multiple genes show either parental expression patterns or tissue-specific expression.
  • The study identified five new imprinted genes in cattle and linked them to distinct methylation patterns that affect their expression.

Genomic imprinting is an epigenetic regulation mechanism in mammals resulting in the parentally dependent monoallelic expression of genes. Imprinting disorders in humans are associated with several congenital syndromes and cancers and remain the focus of many medical studies. Cattle is a better model organism for investigating human embryo development than mice.

State Key Laboratory of Proteomics, National Center for Protein Sciences at Beijing, Beijing Proteome Research Center, Beijing Institute of Radiation Medicine, Beijing, PR China; School of Life Science, University of Hebei, Baoding City, Hebei Province, PR China. Electronic address:

As two major types of primary liver cancers, the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) have been well studied separately. However, a systemic assessment of the similarities and differences between the TIME of HCC and ICC is still lacking. In this study, we pictured a landscape of combined TIME of HCC and ICC by sequencing and integrating 41 single-cell RNA-seq samples from four different tissue types of both malignancies.

Institute of Pathogenic Biology and Immunology, North University of Hebei, Zhangjiakou 075000, China. Electronic address:

Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is the dominant pathogen in several infectious diseases. Currently the use of antibiotics is the main intervention to prevent NTHi infections, however with the emergence of drug resistant strains, it has compromised the treatment of respiratory infections with antibiotics. Therefore there is an urgent need to develop a safe and effective vaccine to prevent NTHi infections.

December 2023

Key Laboratory of Tropical and Subtropical Fisheries Resource Application and Cultivation, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Pearl River Fisheries Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Guangzhou 510310, China.

Mandarin fish ranavirus (MRV) infection poses a substantial challenge to the mandarin fish culture industry as no effective preventive or therapeutic measures currently exist. The creation of a highly permissive cell line from a natural host is crucial for developing a vaccine for MRV and understanding its pathogenic mechanisms. In this research, the mandarin fish () kidney cell line (SCK) was isolated from mandarin fish kidneys.

Introduction: To achieve effective conservation objectives, it is crucial to map biodiversity patterns and hotspots while considering multiple influencing factors. However, focusing solely on biodiversity hotspots is inadequate for species conservation on a landscape scale. This emphasizes the importance of integrating hotspots with the home ranges of species to identify priority conservation areas.

October 2023

State Key Laboratory of Proteomics, National Center for Protein Sciences at Beijing, Beijing Proteome Research Center, Beijing Institute of Radiation Medicine, Beijing, China.

Radiation triage and biological dosimetry are critical for the medical management of massive potentially exposed individuals following radiological accidents. Here, we performed a genome-wide screening of radiation-responding mRNAs, whose N6-methyladenosine (mA) levels showed significant alteration after acute irradiation. The mA levels of three genes, Ncoa4, Ate1 and Fgf22, in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of mice showed excellent dose-response relationships and could serve as biomarkers of radiation exposure.
