To prevent H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) and Avian metapneumonovirus/C (aMPV/C) infections, we constructed recombinant aMPV/C viruses expressing the HA protein of H9N2 AIV. In addition, EGFP was inserted into the intermediate non-coding region of P-M protein in the aMPV/C genome using a reverse genetic system. The conditions for rescuing the recombinant virus were enhanced followed by insertion of the H9N2 AIV HA gene into the same location in the aMPV/C.

Papain-like cysteine proteases (PLCPs) are a large class of proteolytic enzymes involved in plant growth and development as well as plant responses to biological and abiotic stresses. However, there is no detailed characterization of PLCPs genes in poplar. In this study, a genome-wide analysis of the poplar PtrPLCPs family revealed 47 PtrPLCPs, which were classified into nine subfamilies according to their phylogeny: RD21, CEP, XCP, XBCP3, SAG12, RD19 (5), ALP, CTB, and the lost THI subgroups.

We elucidated the changes of soil microbial biomass and community structure in soil profiles under four typical land use types (farmland, grassland, secondary forest and plantation)and across five soil layers (0-10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50 cm) in the northern mountainous region of Hebei Province. We measured soil microbial biomass by phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) method, and investigated the effects of land use and soil depth on soil microbial biomass and community structure by variance analysis, correlation analysis and redundancy analysis. The results showed that soil water content, bulk density, and organic carbon content of farmland differed significantly from other land use types.

The abscisic acid (ABA) signalling pathway plays a crucial role in plants' response to drought stress. In this study, we aimed to characterize the impact of an ABA signalling module, which consisted of TaPYL9 and its downstream partners in Triticum aestivum, on plant drought adaptation. Our results showed that TaPYL9 protein contains conserved motifs and targets plasma membrane and nucleus after being sorted by the endoplasmic reticulum.

Prenyltransferases play a pivotal role in the isoprenoid biosynthesis and transfer in insects. In the current study, two classes of prenyltransferases (MhieFPPS1 and MhieFPPS2, MhiePFT-β and MhiePF/GGT-α) were identified in the leaf beetle, Monolepta hieroglyphica. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that MhieFPPS1, MhieFPPS2, MhiePFT-β and MhiePF/GGT-α were clustered in one clade with homologous in insects.

Grafted chitosan materials show the characteristics of high stability, easy separation and recovery, and good heavy metal adsorption capacity, and have received much attention in the adsorption process. Therefore, in this work, novel grafted chitosan-based adsorbent CS-EHBSB@F-AE was prepared by a one-pot reaction of chitosan (CS), 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (EHB), formaldehyde (F) and aminoethanol (F). The microstructure and morphology of the as-prepared composite CS-EHBSB@F-AE were characterized by FT-IR, TGA, DSC, FE-SEM, and BET analyses.

This study reports the successful synthesis of flame-retardant and smoke-suppressing epoxy resin (EP) via bio-based polyelectrolyte flame retardants. Herein, a novel polyelectrolyte flame retardant was prepared from chitosan (CS) and hexa-(4-carboxyl-phenoxy)-cyclotriphosphazene (HCPCP) by acid-base neutralization reaction, which the HCPCP was synthesized with hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCP) and methyl p-hydroxybenzoate (MP) by nucleophilic substitution reaction. The combined effect of the addition on the flame retardant, smoke suppression and mechanical properties of EP samples were systematically investigated.

This study addresses the critical issue of high-temperature stress in Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), a factor threatening both their survival and the growth of the aquaculture industry. The research aims to identify genetic markers associated with high-temperature tolerance, unravel the genetic regulatory mechanisms, and lay the foundation for breeding Japanese flounder with increased resistance to high temperatures. Daqu is used as the fermentation starter of Baijiu and contributes diversified functional microbes for saccharifying grains and converting sugars into ethanol and aroma components in Baijiu products. Daqu is mainly classified into three types, namely low (LTD), medium (MTD) and high (HTD) temperature Daqu, according to the highest temperatures reached in their fermentation processes. In this study, we used the PacBio small-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing technology to determine the full-length 16 S rRNA gene sequences from the metagenomes of 296 samples of different types of Daqu collected from ten provinces in China, and revealed the bacterial diversity at the species level in the Daqu samples.
