Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin is an early marker of renal damage in lower urinary tract obstruction in rats.

To compare the urinary NGAL levels with serum creatinine levels as an early biomarker for renal injury in rats with bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). METHODS: Twenty male Wistar Albino rats dividedin to 4 groups. In each group basal serum creatinine and urinary NGAL levels were evaluated.

Role of Alvarado score and biological indicators of C-reactive protein, procalicitonin and neopterin in diagnosis of acute appendicitis.

Background: The determination of a definitive preoperative diagnosis of acute appendicitis (AA) remains a challenge; however, delays in diagnosis increase complication rates. The aim of this study was to investigate the contribution of the Alvarado score (AS) alone and the AS combined with the use of the biological indicators of C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT) and neopterin (NP) in the diagnosis.

Methods: Serum was collected from 100 patients who were admitted to the general surgery clinic of Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty between March 4, 2014 and July 29, 2015 with the pre-diagnosis of AA and who agreed to take part in the study.

Balanced Salt Solution-Assisted Intraocular Lens Implantation in Phacoemulsification Surgery: Intraocular Pressure and Endothelial Cell Effects.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of balanced salt solution (BSS)-assisted intraocular lens (IOL) implantation on postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) and endothelial cells and to compare BSS-assisted IOL implantation with the use of ophthalmic viscosurgical devices during IOL implantation.

Methods: A total of 52 eyes of 40 patients (25 female, 15 male) with a cataract who underwent phacoemulsification surgery with BSS-assisted (26 eyes) or viscoelastic-assisted IOL implantation (26 eyes) were evaluated. BSS-assisted IOL implantation was performed with the aid of irrigation cannula and BSS without using a viscoelastic substance.

Serum Cortisol as a Predictor of Major Adverse Pulmonary Event in Emergency Department Acutely Dyspneic Patients.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone released from the adrenal glands in response to stressful conditions. Elevated cortisol levels have been described in stress, but it is unclear whether these are associated with adverse outcomes. In this study, we assess whether cortisol levels drawn in patients presenting with dyspnea to the ED were a predictor of major adverse pulmonary event (MAPE).

Beneficial effects of Salvia miltiorrhiza in the healing of burn wounds: an experimental study in rats.

Introduction: Burn healing is a complicated process and very few treatments can positively alter its effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects Salvia miltiorrhiza (SM -Danshen), a traditional Chinese medicine, on burn wound healing.

Material And Methods: Twenty rats were included in this study and divided into two groups.
