Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the change in eyelid and ocular surface parameters that were measured using a digital measurement program, the change in the visual field (VF), and the correlation between ocular surface area (OSA) and VF parameters in patients who underwent upper eyelid blepharoplasty for involutional dermatochalasis.

Methods: Patients who underwent upper eyelid blepharoplasty for involutional dermatochalasis between August 2015 and August 2019 were included in the study. The difference between preoperative and postoperative 3rd month values of manually measured margin reflex distance 1 (MRD1), digitally measured eyelid and ocular surface parameters (MRD1, MRD 2 [MRD2], upper eyelid crease height [ECH], pretarsal show height [PTH], eyebrow line-height [EBH] and OSA), and VF parameters were evaluated.

Objectives: Benign essential blepharospasm (BEB) is a focal dystonia characterized by involuntary contractions of the orbicularis oculi and periocular muscles. We aimed to investigate the effects of muscle receptor levels on the etiopathogenesis of blepharospasm by evaluating the orbicularis oculi estrogen receptor (ER) and androgen receptor (AR) levels.

Methods: Four blepharospasm patients (2 females and 2 males) who underwent upper lid blepharoplasty and/or orbicularis myomectomy and 4 healthy cases (2 females, 2 males) that had upper lid blepharoplasty were included.

A 42-year-old woman presented with bilateral proptosis, chemosis, leg pain, and vision loss. Orbital, chorioretinal, and multi-organ involvement of Erdheim-Chester disease, a rare non-Langerhans histiocytosis, with a negative BRAF mutation was diagnosed based on clinical, radiological, and pathological findings. Interferon-alpha-2a (IFNα-2a) was started, and her clinical condition improved.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the theoretical, practical, and academic effects of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on ophthalmology residents.

Methods: The web-based survey consisting of 28 questions was sent through Email to 37 educators who provides resident training. We divided the pandemic period into three, according to the severity of the pandemic and the measures, compared with pre-pandemic period (PreP), separately.

Purpose: To evaluate the changes in anterior chamber dimensions including horizontal anterior chamber diameter (HACD), anterior chamber depth (ACD), and iridocorneal angle (ICA) following small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) using Scheimpflug-Placido disk tomographer (Sirius).

Methods: The records of the 73 eyes of 47 patients who received SMILE for myopia and myopic astigmatism were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative and 6-month postoperative measurements of central corneal thickness (CCT), HACD, ACD, ICA, nasal anterior chamber angle (nACA), and temporal anterior chamber angle (tACA) were obtained by tomography, and compared with paired t-tests.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to present and compare 2 years results of mechanical photorefractive keratectomy (M-PRK) and transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (T-PRK) for myopia.

Methods: One hundred and nine eyes of 55 patients were included in this retrospective study. The mean age of the patients was 26.

In June 2020, a 28-year-old female patient was admitted to our clinic with reduced vision in the left eye. She had systemic COVID-19 infection in May 2020 and during her treatment course, her visual complaints had begun approximately 1 week after the beginning of the COVID-19. Previously, the patient had bilateral femtosecond assisted - Laser in situ Keratomileusis in our clinic in 2018.

Described herein are the cases of 2 patients who underwent bilateral femtosecond-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis (FS LASIK) surgery and subsequently developed unilateral postLASIK ectasia. The fellow eye of both patients was topographically normal, their visual acuity was 20/20, and the patients had no visual symptoms. However, a biomechanical assessment using the Corvis ST tonometer (Oculus Optikgerate GmbH; Wetzlar, Germany) revealed remarkable weakness not only in the ectatic eyes, but also in the fellow eye.

Purpose: The length of Descemet's membrane and donor graft sizes in deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty do not match in very steep corneas, which can lead to Descemet's membrane folds. The aim of this study is to establish a theoretical model for graft size calculations for deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty and evaluate its efficacy for preventing Descemet's membrane folds.

Methods: We calculated the arc diameter of the recipient bed by using the cosine formula and developed a table to aid surgeons in donor punch size selection.

Vitamin A has an essential role in the maintenance of corneal and conjunctival epithelization, as well as photoreceptor transduction in the retina. A deficiency of vitamin A causes keratinization of the surface epithelium, and night blindness is often the first symptom. This report describes a case of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO), a rare and potentially fatal disease, diagnosed following detection of a vitamin A deficiency in an ophthalmological examination.

Article Synopsis
  • This study introduces a new surgical method aimed at enhancing muscle strength and vascular protection while repositioning the extraocular muscles.
  • The researchers analyzed patient records, comparing pre- and post-operative eye movements and measurements, with follow-ups lasting over six months.
  • Results indicated successful transposition in patients with greater than 7 mm muscle resection, while some limitations were noted in smaller resections, but overall the technique proved to be safe and effective.*
