KCNQ1-5 α-subunits assemble to form K(+) channels that play critical roles in the function of numerous tissues. The channels are tetramers of subunits containing six transmembrane domains. Each subunit consists of a pore region (S5-pore-S6) and a voltage-sensor domain (S1-S4).

We sought to identify rates, associated morbidities, and preventable causes of late preterm birth (LPB) in a defined population. We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional analysis using deidentified delivery data for all who delivered in San Antonio/Bexar County, Texas between 2000 and 2008 (N = 259,576). LPB was defined as a live birth from 34(0/7) to 36(6/7) weeks.

Matrix remodeling plays a prominent role in growth plate calcification. Since interleukin-1 (IL-1) has been implicated in stimulating proteinase production and inhibiting matrix synthesis in articular cartilage, we examined whether IL-1 was present in growth plate and whether the vitamin D metabolites, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3; 1,25) and 24,25(OH)2D3 (24,25), regulate the level of IL-1 found in this tissue. Sprague-Dawley rats were placed on normal (Normal rats) or rachitogenic diet (-VDP rats).
