Purpose The purpose of this study is to compare patient-reported outcomes of minimally invasive treatments for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), namely, transurethral water vapor therapy (Rezum) and prostatic urethral lift (UroLift), due to the lack of direct comparison in the existing literature. Methods A retrospective single-institution study was conducted comparing Rezum and UroLift procedures performed by three surgeons between January 2019 and June 2022. The difference in American Urological Association Symptom Scores (AUA SS) was the primary outcome measure.

Background: Recent studies have demonstrated an obesity paradox, where obese patients with cardiovascular disease have a better outcome compared to those with normal weight. However, the effect of obesity and body mass index (BMI) on the outcome of patients with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices remains unclear. The current study aims to investigate this relationship using all available published data.

This review summarizes the diagnosis and management of thyrotoxicosis in pregnancy. The diagnostic clinical and biochemical considerations used to distinguish the various etiologies of hyperthyroidism from appropriate physiologic changes during pregnancy will be outlined. Finally, the review will discuss the risks and benefits of available options for the treatment of thyrotoxicosis during pregnancy, to mitigate the risks of fetal hyperthyroidism.

Background: Cardiac arrest is a common and devastating emergency of both the heart and brain. More than 380,000 patients suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest annually in the USA. Induced cooling of comatose patients markedly improved neurological and functional outcomes in pivotal randomized clinical trials, but the optimal duration of therapeutic hypothermia has not yet been established.

Importance: Preeclampsia has direct influences on a developing fetus and may impact postnatal health, and fetal growth restriction (FGR) is often seen co-occurring with preeclampsia. The development of children born very preterm after preeclampsia diagnosis with and without FGR is not well characterized.
Objective: To examine the associations of preeclampsia and FGR with developmental and/or behavioral outcomes in a cohort of very preterm infants.

Purpose Of Review: The burden of epilepsy is complex and consists of elements directly related to acute seizures as well as those associated with living with a chronic neurologic disorder. The purpose of this systematic review was to characterize short-term burdens of seizures and to explore the potential value of acute treatments to mitigate these burdens apart from reducing the risk of status epilepticus.
Recent Findings: A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed to identify articles published from January 1, 2017, to June 22, 2023, that described short-term burdens and acute treatments of seizures.
In this case report, we present the development of catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS), a rare and potentially fatal consequence of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), in a 33-year-old Micronesian woman. CAPS is characterized by extensive arterial thrombosis and multiorgan failure. The patient first showed signs of neuropsychiatric symptoms, brain infarctions on imaging, and severe hypoxic respiratory failure brought into the hospital by diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) along with lupus nephritis (LN).

Background: Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) facilitates detailed visualization of endoluminal anatomy not adequately appreciated on conventional angiography. However, it is unclear if IVUS use improves clinical outcomes of peripheral vascular interventions (PVIs) for peripheral arterial disease. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of IVUS on 1-year outcomes of PVI in the vascular quality initiative (VQI).

is an uncommon parasitic disease contracted through the consumption of undercooked pork. We report the case of a 59-year-old man with a history of bicuspid aortic valve with recent travel to the Philippines and consumption of raw pork presenting with progressive myalgia and hypereosinophilia (nadir 12,940/uL) in profound cardiogenic shock in the setting of critical aortic stenosis. He underwent emergent balloon valvuloplasty, which was complicated by aortic insufficiency.

Objective: Understand how high-risk infants' development changes over time. Examine whether NICU Network Neurobehavioral Scale (NNNS) profiles are associated with decrements in developmental outcomes between ages 2 and 3 years in infants born very preterm.
Study Design: The Neonatal Outcomes for Very preterm Infants (NOVI) cohort is a multisite prospective study of 704 preterm infants born <30 weeks' gestation across nine university and VON affiliated NICUs.
Objective: To determine the incidence of late onset hearing loss and associated risk factors in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants.
Study Design: Retrospective study (2003-2015) of post-discharge hearing outcomes and risk factors in the VLBW infant population, before and after the institution of a standardized follow-up program.
Results: Late onset hearing loss increased from 2.

The purpose of this study was to determine if similar disparities in the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among different ethnic groups are also present among Hawaii's houseless population. A retrospective chart review of records from one of Oahu's major houseless outreach clinics was performed to gather patient demographics and reported histories of psychiatric diagnoses.

Examine the association between mobility device use and changes in a frailty index (FI) over one year in community-dwelling older adults with mobility limitations. Analyses utilized 2015-2016 data from the National Health and Aging Trends Study community-dwelling older adults ( = 3934). We calculated a validated 40-item deficit accumulation frailty index (FI) in 2015 and 2016 and compared one year change in FI in older adults with/without canes or walkers using multivariable logistic regression.
