Fetal premature excess vertebral linear calcification: a case series.

During embryogenesis, the vertebrae begin development during the 6th week of gestation via two lateral chondrification centers per segment. It was assumed that when disruptions occur in the process of somitogenesis during membranous vertebral body formation, chondrification and ossification will follow the anomalous membranous vertebral body scaffolding, resulting in an anomalous vertebral formation, such as a hemivertebra. Another hypothesis is that hemivertebra may result from anomalous distribution of intersegmental arteries of the vertebral column.

Identification and reduction of retained primitive reflexes by sensory stimulation in autism spectrum disorder: effects on qEEG networks and cognitive functions.

Several authors have reported finding retained primitive reflexes (RPRs) in individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). This case report describes the reduction of RPRs and changes in cognitive function after transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) of muscle. Three individuals were examined in a study at the Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Havana, Cuba.

Daily associations with cannabis use and sleep quality in anxious cannabis users.

Introduction: Cannabis is increasingly used to self-treat anxiety and related sleep problems, without clear evidence of either supporting or refuting its anxiolytic or sleep aid effects. In addition, different forms of cannabis and primary cannabinoids ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) have differing pharmacological effects.

Methods: Thirty days of daily data on sleep quality and cannabis use were collected in individuals who use cannabis for mild-to-moderate anxiety ( = 347; 36% male, 64% female; mean age = 33 years).

Association between PCV13 pneumococcal vaccination and risk of hospital admissions due to pneumonia or sepsis among patients with haematological malignancies: a single-centre retrospective cohort study in Israel.

Objectives: Patients with haematological malignancies receiving immunosuppressive therapy are at highest risk of invasive pneumococcal disease. Our goal was to investigate whether vaccination of haematological patients with pneumococcal 13-valent conjugated vaccine (PCV13) prior to therapy initiation is associated with decreased hospital admissions due to pneumonia or sepsis within 12 months.

Design And Setting: A longitudinal retrospective cohort study was conducted at the haematology unit of Carmel Medical Center, Israel.

Resilience in late adolescence/young adulthood: Rising to the occasion?

The developmental period of late adolescence/young adulthood is characterized by transitioning to an independent individual with a self-identity, established health habits and the components of resilience: (1) confidence in one's abilities (personal competence) and (2) the ability to adapt to changes (acceptance of self and life). This two-wave, prospective study examines the associations among self-identity, health habits and resilience in 18 year olds (n = 149) before military service and six months afterward. The questionnaire included validated scales of resilience and self-identity, as well as instruments measuring health habits, family environment and demographic characteristics.

Early prenatal diagnosis of double inlet left ventricle.

Objective: The aim of this study to describe the presentation of double inlet left ventricle (DILV) very early in prenatal life, to assess its prevalence and to portray the associated anomalies.

Methods: This was a retrospective study which included all the women who attended our clinic for early fetal screening sonography, between 2006 and 2020. Most of the screening was done at 14-16 weeks of gestation (except one high risk pregnancy, which was performed at nine gestational weeks), and included an anatomic fetal scan and Doppler imaging.

Protocol for the REPAT study: role of emotional processing in art therapy for breast cancer palliative care patients.

Introduction: Patients with breast cancer (BC) cope with depression which is linked to functional limitations in survivorship and to physical symptoms. Pain and fatigue are prominent symptoms that affect the well-being of cancer survivors. Emotional processing has been associated with improved physical and psychological health in survivors.

Early Prenatal Diagnosis of Double Aortic Arch: Prevalence, Associated Anomalies and Outcome.

Purpose:  Our aims were to describe the feasibility of diagnosis of DAA in early pregnancy and to assess its prenatal prevalence, associated anomalies and outcome.

Materials And Methods:  A retrospective cohort review of all DAA cases diagnosed by early prenatal transvaginal scans at 12-17 weeks of gestation between the years 2007-2018 was performed. Associated anomalies, genetic abnormalities and long-term postnatal outcome were evaluated.

Medical cannabis and insomnia in older adults with chronic pain: a cross-sectional study.

Objectives: Medical cannabis (MC) is increasingly being used for treatment of chronic pain symptoms. Among patients there is also a growing preference for the use of MC to manage sleep problems. The aim of the current study was to examine the associations between use of whole plant cannabis and sleep problems among chronic pain patients.

Care gap: a comprehensive measure to quantify unmet needs in mental health.

Aim: Treatment gap refers to the percentage of individuals who require treatment in a country or a defined community but do not receive it due to various reasons. There is widespread acceptance of 'treatment gap' as a measure of unmet needs in mental health. However, the term 'treatment' carries a medical connotation and implies biomedical treatment (or lack of it) of mental illness and is often interpreted by policymakers, planners and researchers, as well as by non-professional stakeholders as exclusively referring to curative clinical psychiatric interventions.
