Lignocellulosic by-products from agricultural crops represent an important raw material for anaerobic digestion and clean renewable, which is a key component of the circular economy. Lignocellulose is recalcitrant to biodegradation and pretreatments are required to increase methane yield during anaerobic digestion. In this work, the efficacy of different physicochemical pretreatments was compared using corn stover biomass as substrate.

Sixty-seven yeast strains were isolated from castor beans then their endogenous lipids were stained by Nile Red (NR) fluorescence dye, and flow cytometry was used to obtain a strain with a high relative mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) value. The highest MFI value was obtained for strain CM33, which produced a maximum lipid content of 20.8 % dry cell weight (DCW).

Composting is a sustainable technology in treating organic pollutants and controlling odorous gas emissions from different organic solid waste, by reducing its size and volume. When the process parameters are handled efficiently, composting process is greatly effective than other waste treatment options in terms of operational costs, income generation out of compost, reduced air and water pollution. The successful composting operation does not count only the final product, but also the odorous gas emissions being released off to the atmosphere.

Livestock mortality management is a critical factor for ensuring biosecurity, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining public trust in livestock production agriculture. The number of technologies currently used for livestock mortality management is small, including composting, burial, incineration, landfilling, and rendering. Each technology has advantages and disadvantages which make their suitability situational.

Remarkable productivity has been achieved in crop species through artificial selection and adaptation to modern agronomic practices. Whether intensive selection has changed the ability of improved cultivars to maintain high productivity across variable environments is unknown. Understanding the genetic control of phenotypic plasticity and genotype by environment (G × E) interaction will enhance crop performance predictions across diverse environments.

To evaluate the effect of three years of autumn cover crops on subsequent processing tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) production in 2010 and 2011, a field split-split-plot factorial design trial with effects of cover crop type, urea ammonium nitrate fertilizer rate (0 or 140 kg N ha-1 preplant broadcast incorporated) and tomato cultivar (early vs.

Western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, has rapidly evolved resistance to Bt maize in the field, leading to local loss of efficacy for some corn rootworm Bt maize events. Documenting and responding to this resistance has been complicated by a lack of rapid diagnostic bioassays and by regulatory triggers that hinder timely and effective management responses.

The production of synthetic glycerol from petrochemical feedstocks has been decreasing in recent years. This is largely due to increasing supplies of crude glycerol derived as a co-product from the oleochemical industry, especially biodiesel production. The price of glycerol is at historic lows, and the supply of crude glycerol is projected to grow faster than its industrial uses.
