Therapeutic coordination polymers: tailoring drug release through metal-ligand interactions.

Developing tunable materials which exhibit sustained drug release is a considerable challenge. Herein, we report the concept of Therapeutic Coordination Polymers (TCPs); non-porous coordination polymers constructed from biocompatible components which demonstrate tunable zero-order drug release kinetics upon degradation of metal-ligand bonds. TCPs were constructed from three principal components: (i) a cationic metal center (M = Mg, Mn, Zn, or Cu); (ii) an anionic drug (Diclofenac); and (iii) an alkyl bis-imidazole organic ligand which behaves as a "linker" between metal centers.

Quantitative matching of crystal structures to experimental powder diffractograms.

The identification and classification of crystal structures is fundamental in materials science, as the crystal structure is an inherent factor of what gives solid materials their properties. Being able to identify the same crystallographic form from unique origins ( different temperatures, pressures, or -generated) is a complex challenge. While our previous work has focused on comparison of simulated powder diffractograms from known crystal structures, herein is presented the variable-cell experimental powder difference (VC-xPWDF) method to match collected powder diffractograms of unknown polymorphs to both experimental crystal structures from the Cambridge Structural Database and -generated structures from the Control and Prediction of the Organic Solid State database.

Evaluating the quality of municipal strategic plans.

Local governments increasingly use strategic planning as a tool to anticipate and address the complex challenges they face. Strategic planning is the process of setting long-term goals, prioritizing actions to achieve the goals, and mobilizing human and financial resources to execute the actions.
