Leveraging Thermal Infrared Imaging for Pig Ear Detection Research: The TIRPigEar Dataset and Performances of Deep Learning Models.

The stable physiological structure and rich vascular network of pig ears contribute to distinct thermal characteristics, which can reflect temperature variations. While the temperature of the pig ear does not directly represent core body temperature due to the ear's role in thermoregulation, thermal infrared imaging offers a feasible approach to analyzing individual pig status. A young, intact, female, American Bulldog was presented for hemorrhagic vaginal discharge. Anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis with neutrophilia, azotemia, and electrolyte disturbances were detected in the bloodwork. A urachal diverticulum with concurrent uterine distention was identified by ultrasonography and CT.

Exploring the readiness to practice of underrepresented healthcare workers: A scoping review.

Background: Studies across the extant literature suggest that less-experienced healthcare workers are more likely to experience adverse outcomes such as burnout, sick leaves, or intend to leave the profession. Thus, one's readiness to practice is an important element that requires more attention. While extensive research exists on the readiness of certain professions like nurses, a notable gap remains concerning other healthcare workers.

Feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary impact of "Supper Heroes", a family-based sustainable diet intervention.

The primary objective of this research was to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of "Supper Heroes", a superhero-themed mobile health (mHealth) intervention designed to reduce food waste and increase plant-based protein food intake among families with children aged 9-14 in Ontario, Canada. A single arm, pre-post mixed methods design was used to evaluate the intervention. The 4-month mHealth intervention included 7 online modules with infographics, videos, and activities to help families reduce their food waste and eat more plant-based protein foods.

Background: Omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) are important dietary components for maternal and infant health during pregnancy and lactation.

Objective: This study investigated determinants of maternal and infant LCPUFAs status at three months postpartum and the relationship between maternal serum, mother's milk, and infant LCPUFAs.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included mothers (n=1481) and their offspring (n=526) at three months postpartum from the APrON cohort.

This review aimed to assess the scope of the literature on tracking the microbial community of biofilms, focusing on the dairy farm and processing environments. The majority of studies focused on either production, storage, transport or processing of milk, while 5 combined the investigation of both production and processing facilities. Factors influencing short-term changes in dairy microbiota such as the occurrence of mastitis and season were distinguished from factors revealed through long-term studies, such as feed and weather, rather than the milking equipment.

Objective: To determine the predictive potential of the open reading frame 5 nucleotide sequence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus and the basic demographic data on the severity of the impact on selected production parameters during clinical PRRS outbreaks in Ontario sow herds.

Methods: A retrospective longitudinal study of clinical outbreaks in Ontario sow herds at various points between September 5, 2009, and February 5, 2019, was conducted using herds as units of analysis. Data were gathered from study sow farms in Ontario at the start of each clinical outbreak.

Implementation of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect (DEIR) is crucial for supporting students in a culturally safe environment, reducing bias, fostering respect, broadening perspectives, enhancing collaboration, and improving education in science. DEIR with Indigenous reconciliation incorporates Indigenous-based DEIR initiatives as a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in Canada to acknowledge the intergenerational trauma and mistrust toward colonial institutions such as universities. Universities can advance reconciliation by incorporating DEIR with Indigenous reconciliation into everyday practices.
