Neprilysin (NEP), a protease involved in vascular regulation, has been linked to PE, but its role in endothelial function and vascular adaptation remains unclear. This pilot study investigates the associations between soluble neprilysin (sNEP) and markers of vascular and renal function in high-risk pregnancies without PE.

Manual and mechanical ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation are critical yet poorly understood components of resuscitation care. In recent years, intra-arrest ventilation has been the subject of a growing number of laboratory and clinical investigations. In the present study, we assessed HDL subclass composition in 463 patients with CKD stage 2-4 using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Methods: Six GCA patients were scanned twice (two rounds separated ≥3 hours) by 12 experts and 12 non-experts. Non-experts received 90 min of theoretical and 240 min of practical training between rounds 1 and 2.

Due to the diverse processes involved in Neolithisation, which resulted in a high diversity of regional and local phenomena, the underlying mechanisms of these developments are still largely unexplored.

Local anaesthesia vs. brachial plexus block in trapeziometacarpal joint arthroplasty.

Introduction: An established anaesthetic procedure used during total trapeziometacarpal joint (TMCJ) arthroplasty is the brachial plexus block (BPB). It was hypothesized that local anaesthesia (LA) provides advantages in overall cost, enables intraoperative assessment of the prosthesis, and minimises the anaesthetic risk. In this study, LA to BPB was compared and outcomes, safety, and overall patient satisfaction were analyzed.

Endometriosis, a chronic inflammatory condition affecting 10% of biological women, is widely understudied and particularly overlooked in later life. Discussions surrounding endometriosis predominantly centre on medical gender bias during reproductive years, with limited attention to intersecting factors of discrimination and the impact of ageism on affected individuals. As endometriosis is framed as a disease of reproductive age, research is lacking when it comes to the effects of the illness on the older population.

Available equipment for traumatic haemorrhage management in Austrian prehospital physician response units: a nationwide survey and analysis of guideline adherence.

Background: Traumatic injuries, particularly those involving massive bleeding, remain a leading cause of preventable deaths in prehospital settings. The availability of appropriate emergency equipment is crucial for effectively managing these injuries, but the variability in equipment across different response units can impact the quality of trauma care. This prospective survey study evaluated the availability of prehospital equipment for managing bleeding trauma patients in Austria.

Switching from natalizumab to antiCD20 monoclonal antibodies: Short transition interval is associated with improved outcome.

Objective: To investigate the impact of transition interval length when switching from natalizumab (NTZ) to anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies (antiCD20) on recurrent disease activity and safety in relapsing multiple sclerosis (RMS).

Methods: Aggregating data from 8 MS centres in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, we included RMS patients who (i) continuously received NTZ for ≥3 months, (ii) were switched to antiCD20, and (iii) had ≥12 months follow-up after switch. The primary endpoint was occurrence of relapse after switch, secondary endpoints included severe infections (CTCAE grade ≥3).

Lamellarity of ultrasound assisted formations of dipalmitoyl-lecithin vesicles.

Formation of unilamellae of fully hydrated dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) was induced by a horn sonicator from multilamellar vesicles and followed by time-resolved synchrotron small angle X-ray scattering and direct visual morphological investigations by the means of transmission electron-microscopy combined with freeze-fracture. Without incubation the ultrasonication causes continuous increasing in temperature and transformation from the gel to rippled gel structures, then reaching the main transition, the formfactor of unilamellar structure appeared. The ultrasonication resulted in different layer formations at the characteristic temperatures of the gel (20 °C), rippled gel (38 °C), and liquid crystalline (45 °C) phases of the system.

It's 'claw'-some: Ontogenetic claw shape changes in mites (Acari, Oribatida) as a consequence of ecological shifts.

Claw characteristics of oribatid mites are strongly correlated with environmental factors and these characters remain constant throughout development when immatures and adults share the same ecology and lifestyle. In the present study, claw traits of oribatid mite species with constant ecology were compared with those of species showing a clear ecological shift between juvenile and adult stage. The arboreal Sellnickia caudata and the saxicolous Niphocepheus nivalis dwell in the same microhabitat during their life-cycle, whereas immatures of the terrestrial Carabodes areolatus and Mycobates carli, as well as of the aquatic Hydrozetes lemnae, are, in contrast to their adults, endophagous, meaning they feed and burrow within lichen and plant tissue.

Targeted nanoliposomes to improve enzyme replacement therapy of Fabry disease.

The central nervous system represents a major target tissue for therapeutic approach of numerous lysosomal storage disorders. Fabry disease arises from the lack or dysfunction of the lysosomal alpha-galactosidase A (GLA) enzyme, resulting in substrate accumulation and multisystemic clinical manifestations. Current enzyme replacement therapies (ERTs) face limited effectiveness due to poor enzyme biodistribution in target tissues and inability to reach the brain.

Primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection in clinical stage 2a/b non-seminomatous germ cell tumour.

Objectives: To reassess the role of primary retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) in patients with marker-negative non-seminomatous germ cell tumour (NSGCT) clinical stage (CS) 2a, to explore results in patients with CS 2b and to evaluate surgical methods, recurrence, and adjuvant chemotherapy indications.

Materials And Methods: Data from 17 institutions were collected, comprising 305 men who underwent primary RPLND for CS 2 NSGCT. Regression analyses were conducted to predict histology in the RPLND specimen and disease-free survival (DFS).
