Objective: Deficits in online self-awareness (SA) are common after acquired brain injury (ABI), leading to safety concerns and impacting daily activities and rehabilitation outcomes. Early identification is recommended as a critical first step in cognitive rehabilitation following ABI. The aim of this observational study was to examine differences in online SA and strategy use between individuals with ABI and healthy controls.

As the temperature decreases, rigid anisotropic molecules that usually incorporate polar groups, aromatic rings or multiple bonds, orient along a common direction, eventually forming liquid-crystalline phases under specific thermodynamic conditions. This study explores the phase behavior and dynamics of board-shaped mesogens with a 1,4,5,8-tetraphenyl-anthraquinone core and four lateral arms forming an oligo(phenyleneethynylene) scaffold. These molecules are promising candidates for forming the elusive biaxial nematic phase.

The Indo-European languages are among the most widely spoken in the world, yet their early diversification remains contentious. It is widely accepted that the spread of this language family across Europe from the 5th millennium BP correlates with the expansion and diversification of steppe-related genetic ancestry from the onset of the Bronze Age. However, multiple steppe-derived populations co-existed in Europe during this period, and it remains unclear how these populations diverged and which provided the demographic channels for the ancestral forms of the Italic, Celtic, Greek, and Armenian languages.

Background: Community pharmacists are underutilized in assisting patients with cardiovascular diseases within pharmacy settings. Monitoring and controlling cardiovascular risks could prevent deaths globally and save public health expenses. The aim of this study is to verify how self-care can impact the quality of life of patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Objectives: Fibromyalgia is a complex syndrome that appears more frequently during menopause. No previous studies have investigated the effect of menopause on amino acids in women with fibromyalgia. Therefore, we have examined serum amino acid concentrations in premenopausal and postmenopausal women with fibromyalgia and healthy women.

Carbonaceous aerosols (CA), composed of black carbon (BC) and organic matter (OM), significantly impact the climate. Light absorption properties of CA, particularly of BC and brown carbon (BrC), are crucial due to their contribution to global and regional warming. We present the absorption properties of BC (b) and BrC (b) inferred using Aethalometer data from 44 European sites covering different environments (traffic (TR), urban (UB), suburban (SUB), regional background (RB) and mountain (M)).

We present a major update of MirGeneDB (3.0), the manually curated animal microRNA gene database. Beyond moving to a new server and the creation of a computational mirror, we have expanded the database with the addition of 33 invertebrate species, including representatives of 5 previously unsampled phyla, and 6 mammal species.

Aerobic and resistance exercises are widely recognized as essential for preserving and enhancing cognitive function. However, the effects of concurrent exercise on cognition in older adults remain unclear. This systematic review sought to evaluate the regular effects of concurrent aerobic and resistance training on global cognition in healthy older adults.

Carbohydrate (CHO) intake during exercise could decrease the subjective perceived exertion and promote recovery; however, the effects of intra-training CHO ingestion remain uncertain in CrossFit® (CF) sessions. Therefore, the aim of this randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial was to investigate the effect of acute CHO intake during a CF session on the delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), the perceived exertion (RPE), performance, recovery, and metabolic markers (capillary lactate and glucose) in CF athletes. Twenty-three male athletes trained in CF ingested CHO (60 g of maltodextrin + fructose) or a placebo (PLA) during a CF session.

Growing evidence supports that early sport specialization in children and adolescents may compromise long-term athlete development and high-performance acquisition. This study aimed to determine the presence of specialised shooting roles in formative men's basketball players compared to professionals. Data from shot charts of U14 and professional basketball players during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons were retrieved.

Background: Dyspnoea is often found months and years later in the "long-covid" syndrome, impairing quality of life and further perpetuating anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorders. Physiotherapy was recommended as a treatment in long-covid, but there is still insufficient evidence on its effectiveness.
Methods: We conducted a systematic literature search on MEDLINE, PEDro, WOS, Scopus, VHL and the Cochrane Library until July 2023 (PROSPERO registration number: CRD42023427464).

Contrary to the adult central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system has an intrinsic ability to regenerate that relies on the expression of regeneration-associated genes, such as some kinesin family members. Kinesins contribute to nerve regeneration through the transport of specific cargo, such as proteins and membrane components, from the cell body towards the axon periphery. We show here that KIF4A, associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and previously believed to be only expressed during development, is also expressed in the adult vertebrate nervous system and up-regulated in injured peripheral nervous system cells.

L-citrulline (CIT) supplementation seems to improve resistance training performance; yet, whether malate has additive ergogenic effects when combined with CIT is unknown. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial aimed to compare the acute effects of CIT versus citrulline malate (CMA) supplementation on neuromuscular performance and exertion and emotional perceptions in young, trained men and women. 43 (21 women; 24.

Purpose: This study's purpose was to investigate the midterm effects of alternative set configurations (cluster [CL] and rest redistribution [RR]) on lower- and upper-body neuromuscular capacities in female athletes.
Method: Twenty team-sport female athletes were randomly assigned to a CL (n = 10) or RR (n = 10) training group. The study protocol comprised 2 pretests, 12 training sessions, and a posttest.

Aim: To determine the predictive value of the definition of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) on spirometric parameters of very low birthweight (VLBW) children of school age between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2016.
Methods: In this longitudinal retrospective observational study, we analyse a cohort of children admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2016. All newborns weighing <1500 g and born before 32 weeks of gestational age were included in the study (VLBW newborns).

Objective: To provide guidelines and means for optimal coverage and distribution of computer models with 1-10 clusters, designed based on an in vivo extensive dental colorimetric database and compare the findings with some reputable shade guides.
Materials And Methods: The Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) algorithm was used to optimize the tab position in the CIELAB color space, while MATLAB Fuzzy Logic was used to implement the codes. A minimization process was performed to fine-tune the cluster centers, minimizing Coverage Error (CE) and Maximum Error (ME).

The positive role of melatonin in obesity control and skeletal muscle (SKM) preservation is well known. We recently showed that melatonin improves vastus lateralis muscle (VL) fiber oxidative phenotype. However, fiber type characterization, mitochondrial function, and molecular mechanisms that underlie VL fiber switching by melatonin are still undefined.
