Background: Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is one of the most common gastrointestinal cancers globally. Molecular aberrations of tumor suppressors and/or oncogenes are the main contributors to tumorigenesis. However, the exact underlying mechanisms of COAD pathogenesis are clearly not known yet.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the effects of nickel oxide (NiO) and nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) on oxidative stress and brain tissue changes in male rats, focusing on different doses and comparing outcomes to a control group.
  • - Results indicated that NiO NPs significantly increased the activity of certain antioxidants (GST and catalase) while decreasing overall antioxidant capacity and GSH levels, with both NiO and NiO NPs leading to higher levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of oxidative damage.
  • - Histopathological analysis showed various brain tissue changes, such as necrosis and gliosis, suggesting that both NiO and NiO NPs are toxic and contribute to oxidative stress and cellular

Verticinone as a steroidal alkaloid is one of the major active constituents of medicinal herb, with several pharmacological properties. Present data demonstrate an in vitro assessment of verticinone effects on β-TC6 pancreatic and C2C12 skeletal muscle cells include cell survival, activities of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes (α-amylase and α-glucosidase), levels of insulin secreted into the media, glucose uptake ability, advanced glycation end product (AGEs) include 3-deoxyglucosone, methylglyoxal, and pentosidine levels and the activity of glyoxalase I. Data reveals possible hypoglycemic potential of verticinone, although, the high concentrations of this compound were associated with elevated amount of AGEs and it should be assessed in future investigations.

Objective: Late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorder. Associations of the glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) polymorphisms with the risk factors for AD have not been definitely confirmed. We investigated the association of GSTM1 and GSTT1 null deletion and GSTP1 313 A/G polymorphisms and the risk of AD in an Iranian population.

Rollover crashes are responsible for a notable number of serious injuries and fatalities; hence, they are of great concern to transportation officials and safety researchers. However, only few published studies have analyzed the factors associated with severity outcomes of rollover crashes. This research has two objectives.

In the present study, microwave assisted extraction (MAE) was applied as an efficient, green and rapid approach to prepare the aqueous extract of Suaeda aegyptiaca (SA) plant. The obtained aqueous extracts at two different irradiation power (90 and 270W; 15min) in MAE process as well as maceration method (24h) were used in a green and eco-friendly approach for the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). The synthesized ZnO NPs have been characterized via different techniques including UV-Vis absorption; fluorescence and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopices, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Menthol is an organic compound with diverse medicinal and commercial applications, and is made either synthetically or through extraction from mint oils. The aim of the present study was to investigate menthol levels in selected menthol-producing species belonging to the Lamiaceae family, and to determine phylogenetic relationships of menthol dehydrogenase gene sequence among these species. Three genus of Lamiaceae, namely Mentha, Salvia, and Micromeria, were selected for phytochemical and phylogenetic analyses.

Purpose: Vertical root fracture (VRF) is a common complication in endodontically treated teeth. Considering the poor prognosis of VRF, a reliable and valid detection method is necessary. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been reported to be a reliable tool for the detection of VRF; however, the presence of metallic intracanal posts can decrease the diagnostic values of CBCT systems.
