Purpose: Breast cancer (BC) is the most prevalent cancer in women and radiotherapy (RT) is an integral part of its treatment. High-level evidence guides clinical decisions, but given the abundance of guidelines, a need to navigate within the evidence has been identified by the board of the Scientific Association of Swiss Radiation Oncology (SASRO). Functional connectivity patterns in the human brain, like the friction ridges of a fingerprint, can uniquely identify individuals. Does this "brain fingerprint" remain distinct even during Alzheimer's disease (AD)? Using fMRI data from healthy and pathologically ageing subjects, we find that individual functional connectivity profiles remain unique and highly heterogeneous during mild cognitive impairment and AD. However, the patterns that make individuals identifiable change with disease progression, revealing a reconfiguration of the brain fingerprint.

Because of an estimated 20-30% prevalence of occult lymph node (LN) metastases in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), neck dissection is often proposed, despite its potential morbidity. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the diagnostic performance of FDG PET-CT in detecting occult LN metastases was evaluated in patients with clinically negative necks (cN0) and in whom histopathology of a neck dissection specimen served as gold standard. Overall, 16 studies out of 2062 screened on PubMed and EMBASE fulfilled the inclusion criteria (n = 1148 patients).

In cancer treatment, mild hyperthermia (HT) represents an old, but recently revived opportunity to increase the efficacy of radiotherapy (RT) without increasing side effects, thereby widening the therapeutic window. HT disrupts cellular homeostasis by acting on multiple targets, and its combination with RT produces synergistic antitumoral effects on specific pathophysiological mechanisms, associated to DNA damage and repair, hypoxia, stemness and immunostimulation. HT is furthermore associated to direct tumor cell kill, particularly in higher temperature levels.

Advanced age is the most important risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), and carrier-status of the Apolipoprotein E4 (APOE4) allele is the strongest known genetic risk factor. Many studies have consistently shown a link between APOE4 and synaptic dysfunction, possibly reflecting pathologically accelerated biological aging in persons at risk for AD.
