Folia Morphol (Warsz)

December 2021

Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science and Literature, University of Ondokuz, Mayis, Samsun, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the presence of lingual concavity in the mandible, which can lead to serious intraoral bleeding during surgery, particularly in the interforaminal region.
  • A total of 106 patients' cone-beam computed tomography images were analyzed, revealing that 77.9% exhibited type III lingual concavity, with significant variations in concavity angle and depth.
  • The findings suggest that using CBCT imaging can help identify lingual concavity, potentially preventing complications from cortical perforation in surgical settings.

The Radiological Evaluation of Posterior Superior Alveolar Artery by Using CBCT.

Curr Med Imaging

October 2021

Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science and Literature, University of Ondokuz Mayis, Samsun, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • Understanding the anatomy of the maxillary sinus is crucial before sinus lift surgeries, as it helps prevent surgical complications related to the nearby posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA).
  • A study analyzing 150 CBCT scans indicated that knowing the exact position of the PSAA is essential to avoid damaging it and to prevent significant bleeding during procedures.
  • Results showed that most PSAA were located within the bone and had diameters of 1 mm or more, suggesting that larger artery sizes can lead to a higher risk of complications during surgeries.

Introduction: The injection amount of solutions differs in wide ranges, from 20 to 200 μL in intraarticular injections experiments that was carried out with rats. The 10-fold difference between applied volumes is not acceptable since injection errors might affect the outcomes of the studies significantly. The excessive amount of solution that was injected into the knee joint of rats might end up with leakage of the solution from injection aperture, and damage the articular structures etc.

Background: Apelin has various effects on a lot of systems such as central nervous system and cardiovascular system. This study investigated the possible analgesic effects of apelin-13 using the hot-plate and the tail-flick thermal analgesia tests in rats. We also evaluated the mechanism underlying the analgesic effects of apelin-13 by pretreating with Nw-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) or ondansetron.

Department of Animal Production and Technologies, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, University of Niğde, 51240 Niğde, Turkey.

Thirty-one Karayaka ram lambs were slaughtered at different body weights (30 (n =  7), 35 (n =  6), 40 (n =  7), 45 (n =  6), and 50 (n =  5) kg of body weight at fast) to evaluate the growth of their gastrointestinal tract (GIT) characteristics, to determine the relationship among slaughter body weight (SBW) and empty body weight (EBW), whole GIT and segments, and the influence of slaughter weight on the pH of rumen, jejunum, and cecal contents. The effects of the SBW on GIT weight (P <  0.05), stomach (P <  0.

  • Celiac disease (CD) is an inflammatory disorder of the small intestine caused by the consumption of gluten-containing grains, leading to nutrient malabsorption and oxidative stress.
  • This study investigated genetic variations (polymorphisms) in the enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in 265 individuals, focusing on their potential link to common mutations associated with CD.
  • Results indicated that most CD patients with known mutations also had SOD and GSH-Px polymorphisms; however, while SOD variations were more prevalent, the overall statistical significance of these findings was not established.

Lipolytic Changes in Fermented Sausages Produced with Turkey Meat: Effects of Starter Culture and Heat Treatment.

Korean J Food Sci Anim Resour

January 2016

Department of Food Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, University of Gaziosmanpaşa, Tasliciftlik Campus, 60240 Tokat, Turkey.

In this study, the effects of two different commercial starter culture mixes and processing methodologies (traditional and heat process) on the lipolytic changes of fermented sausages manufactured with turkey meat were evaluated during processing stages and storage. Free fatty acid (FFA) value increased with fermentation and during storage over 120 d in all fermented sausage groups produced with both processing methodologies (p<0.05).

The effects of pre-harvest aminoethoxyvinylglycine treatments on fruit quality parameters and bioactive compounds of 'Fortune' plum during cold storage were investigated. Two different aminoethoxyvinylglycine doses were applied to plum trees two weeks prior to the estimated harvest date, and harvested fruit samples were kept in cold storage at 0 (°)C temperature and with 90 ± 5% relative humidity for 4 weeks. Lightness (L*) and hue angle values decreased in all treatments during cold storage.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the levels of key enzymes and antioxidant vitamins in patients with coronary artery ectasia (CAE) compared to a control group.
  • Patients with CAE showed significantly lower superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and higher γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) activity than those with normal arteries, indicating a potential link to oxidative stress.
  • The researchers observed correlations between SOD and vitamin E levels with cholesterol and triglyceride levels, suggesting that oxidative stress and antioxidant status could be important in CAE development.

Article Synopsis
  • A study explored the impact of conventional versus free-range housing systems on the growth performance and meat quality of female broiler chicks with low hatching weights.
  • In the conventional system, chicks were kept entirely indoors, while the free-range system allowed access to outdoor grass after a week, with both groups fed the same diet.
  • Results showed that free-range broilers had lower feed intake and body weight, differences in breast meat color characteristics, and lower plasma triglyceride and VLDL levels compared to those in the conventional system, indicating that free-range broilers may require a longer growth period.

Background: Long-term regular exercise is associated with physiologic and morphologic cardiac alterations. Tissue Doppler Imaging(TDI) and Strain Myocardial Imaging(SI) are new tools in the evaluation systolic and diastolic myocardial function. We sought to compare TDI and SI findings in professional football players and age adjusted sedentary controls to assess the effect of regular athletic training on myocardial function.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of long-term regular exercise on myocardial function, comparing professional football players with age-adjusted sedentary controls.
  • Both groups were similar in age, body surface area, blood pressure, and heart rate; however, the athletes showed significant increases in left ventricular mass, volume, and diastolic function measurements.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that regular athletic training leads to beneficial cardiac adaptations, including enhanced early diastolic velocities and improved early flow propagation velocity in professional athletes.
