Studies on workplace violence against physicians in emergency departments (EDs) in Turkey are lacking. To describe the frequency and types of workplace violence, a 34-question online survey of the past 12 months was sent to physicians working in EDs in Turkey. Types of violence were categorized as verbal threats, physical assaults, confrontation, stalking, and sexual harassment.

Objective: To compare c-kit-positive interstitial Cajal-like cells (ICC) and Caveolin-1 protein levels as a pacemaker and signaling molecules, on ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) specimens, between two groups of pediatric patients with and without ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO).

Methods: We evaluated the UPJ specimens of 45 pediatric patients operated between 2005- 2012 retrospectively. Group 1 included 37 patients who underwent dismembered pyeloplasty due to UPJO.

Objective: We investigated the characteristics of patients who underwent Double-J catheter (D-J) implantation, the risk factors for prolonged urine leakage (PUL), and prediction of patients who require medical treatment.

Methods: The data of 535 adult patients who underwent PNL due to kidney stone disease between January 2005 and December 2011 in our clinic were analyzed retrospectively. Patients were divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (n=77) (14.

Purpose: To assess the reliability of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) in pediatric patients by comparing complications between pediatric patients and adults by use of the modified Clavien grading system.

Materials And Methods: The data of 74 pediatric (0 to 16 years) and 535 adult (17 years and older) patients who underwent PNL owing to kidney stone disease between January 2005 and December 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. The complications in the pediatric and adult patients were classified in five grades according to the modified Clavien system.

A 72-year-old man recently diagnosed with a small cell carcinoma of the prostate was referred for staging of the primary malignancy. F-18-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET/CT) revealed extensive hypermetabolic metastatic involvement of the liver, multiple small metastatic nodules in the lungs, and a solitary bone metastasis to the left scapula, in addition to increased FDG uptake in the enlarged prostate. Serum prostate-specific antigen level was within normal limits.

FDG uptake in abdominal mesh implant on FDG PET/CT.

Clin Nucl Med

May 2008

Department of Nuclear Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, University of Gaziantep School of Medicine, Gaziantep, Turkey.

A 50-year-old man with peritoneal angiosarcoma underwent total tumor excision along with removal of the total right rectus and medial part of the left rectus muscles 1 year earlier. F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) was performed for suspected recurrence. In the anterior abdominal wall extensive subcutaneous FDG uptake showing linear hypermetabolic zone on PET slices was noted.

Background: The unfavorable temporoauriculomastoid region is a serious clinical problem that makes total ear reconstruction a real challenge. In patients who have it, all local flap solutions to provide skin coverage to the cartilage frame are precluded because of loss and/or severe scarring of the regional skin in association with loss of the axial vascularity of the region. In the current literature, all available techniques for these patients are lengthy and risky free flap procedures that can provide a poor quality of skin coverage with no aesthetic harmony at best.

Background: Aortic valve sclerosis (AVS) is considered to be a manifestation of coronary atherosclerosis. Recent studies demonstrated an association between AVS and significant coronary artery disease (CAD).

Aim: We sought to determine the association between AVS and the extent of coronary atherosclerosis by means of the Gensini score system, which was calculated to yield a measure of the extent and severity of coronary atherosclerosis in patients referred for coronary angiography.

Objective: The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) - based DNA amplification fingerprinting (DAF) or randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) is based on a strategy using a single arbitrary oligonucleotide primer to generate anonymous amplification of genomic DNA. On this basic strategy, in this study, we aimed to test individual differences and usefulness of 2 basic primers (5'-CGCGCCGG-3' and 5'-TGCCGAGCTG-3') and examined whether there is a positive effect on results of 10 x PCR buffer with ammonium sulfate.

Methods: A new approach in DNA fingerprinting, 10 x PCR buffer with ammonium sulfate, is presented in the study.
