Unilateral facial paralysis is a common disease that is associated with significant functional, aesthetic and psychological issues. Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) are a heterogeneous group of lymphocytes, which play an important role in tissue homeostasis at epithelial surfaces. They are scarce in spleen and lymph nodes, but substantial numbers can be found in the intestinal mucosa even at steady state. There, they represent the first line of defence against invading pathogens and contribute to lymphorganogenesis, tissue repair and, when inappropriately activated, immune pathology.

Neovascularization of adipose tissue equivalents is a crucial step in successful adipose tissue engineering, since insufficient vascularization results in graft resorption in an in vivo situation. A possible cellular approach to overcome this limitation is the co-implantation of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) with endothelial cells to stimulate the formation of a vascular network.
