Unlabelled: Colorectal cancer (CRC) outcomes in terms of incidence and mortality are significantly worse in African Americans than other Americans. While differences in primary preventions for neoplasia (diet, obesity remediation, aspirin prophylaxis) are being elucidated, genetic mutations affecting premalignant lesions and immune response mechanisms may possibly also explain the increased incidence and mortality, particularly from right-sided disease.
Objective: Our team therefore examined colonic segments seeking to test the hypothesis that the immune response and somatic genetic profiles of the colonic anatomic segments may vary and thus account for variations in neoplasia risk among the various colonic segments revealing an antigenic relationship with precancerous lesions.

Toxic leukoencephalopathy and myelopathy are common neurologic complications of a wide range of chemotherapeutic and substance abuse agents. During the last decade, there has been a significant change in the profile of white matter toxins, primarily driven by the development and usage of new chemotherapeutic and immunotherapeutic agents and by the continuous increase in illicit drug abuse with contaminants. Neuroimaging in the form of MR imaging forms the cornerstone in the diagnosis of these entities, many of which are reversible and amenable to rapid correction.

For over two centuries, clinicians have been aware of various conditions affecting white matter which had come to be grouped under the umbrella term multiple sclerosis. Within the last 20 years, specific scientific advances have occurred leading to more accurate diagnosis and differentiation of several of these conditions including, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease. This new understanding has been coupled with advances in disease-modifying therapies which must be accurately applied for maximum safety and efficacy.

Background: Cutaneous Crohn's disease (CCD), also known as metastatic Crohn's disease (CD), is one of the rarest and most challenging cutaneous manifestations of CD. It is characterized by non-caseating granulomatous inflammation of the skin at sites that are non-contiguous with the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Diagnosis of CCD needs a high clinical suspicion since morphological presentation varies widely and lacks an apparent correlation to the activity of the luminal CD.

Maintenance of genetic stability via proper DNA repair in stem and progenitor cells is essential for the tissue repair and regeneration, while preventing cell transformation after damage. Loss of PUMA dramatically increases the survival of mice after exposure to a lethal dose of ionizing radiation (IR), while without promoting tumorigenesis in the long-term survivors. This finding suggests that PUMA (p53 upregulated modulator of apoptosis) may have a function other than regulates apoptosis.

During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, providers and patients must engage in shared decision making regarding the pros and cons of early versus delayed interventions for localized skin cancer. Patients at highest risk of COVID-19 complications are older; are immunosuppressed; and have diabetes, cancer, or cardiopulmonary disease, with multiple comorbidities associated with worse outcomes. Physicians must weigh the patient's risk of COVID-19 complications in the event of exposure against the risk of worse oncologic outcomes from delaying cancer therapy.

Objective: To describe clinical, biochemical, and genetic features of participants with mitochondrial diseases (MtDs) enrolled in the North American Mitochondrial Disease Consortium (NAMDC) Registry.
Methods: This cross-sectional, multicenter, retrospective database analysis evaluates the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of participants enrolled in the NAMDC Registry from September 2011 to December 2018. The NAMDC is a network of 17 centers with expertise in MtDs and includes both adult and pediatric specialists.

This paper is aimed to present a biomaterials perspective in implant therapy that fosters improved bone response and long-term biomechanical competence from surgical instrumentation to final prosthetic rehabilitation. Strategies to develop implant surface texturing will be presented and their role as an ad hoc treatment discussed in light of the interplay between surgical instrumentation and implant macrogeometric configuration. Evidence from human retrieved implants in service for several years and from in vivo studies will be used to show how the interplay between surgical instrumentation and implant macrogeometry design affect osseointegration healing pathways, and bone morphologic and long-term mechanical properties.

Mixing matrices quantify how people with similar or different characteristics make contact with each other, creating potential for disease transmission. Little empirical data on mixing patterns among persons who inject drugs (PWID) are available to inform models of blood-borne disease such as HIV and hepatitis C virus.
