Objectives: The impact of long-term complications after robotic hybrid coronary revascularization (HCR), including persistent angina, repeat revascularization, and myocardial infarction (MI), remains limited. This study aims to determine the risk factors for coronary events after robotic HCR and their time-varying effects on outcomes.
Methods: We identified all consecutive patients who underwent robotic HCR at our institution.

Background/objectives: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is a malignant liver tumor with a rising global incidence and poor prognosis, largely due to late-stage diagnosis and limited effective treatment options. Standard chemotherapy regimens, including cisplatin and gemcitabine, often fail because of the development of multidrug resistance (MDR), leaving patients with few alternative therapies. Doxycycline, a tetracycline antibiotic, has demonstrated antitumor effects across various cancers, influencing cancer cell viability, apoptosis, and stemness.

Hematological malignancies are a diverse group of cancers developing in the peripheral blood, the bone marrow or the lymphatic system. Due to their heterogeneity, the identification of novel and advanced molecular signatures is essential for enhancing their characterization and facilitate its translation to new pharmaceutical solutions and eventually to clinical applications. In this study, we collected publicly available microarray data for more than five thousand subjects, across thirteen hematological malignancies.

Endometriosis (EM), a chronic inflammatory condition predominantly affecting women of reproductive age, has been linked to an elevated risk of thrombosis, though its underlying molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In this case-control study, involving 71 EM patients and 71 matched controls, we explored the structural and functional changes in fibrinogen and their potential role in thrombosis. Key oxidative stress markers, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in blood lymphocytes, monocytes, and granulocytes, along with plasma lipid peroxidation markers and total antioxidant capacity, were measured.

α-Synuclein (Syn) is an intrinsically disordered protein, abundant in presynaptic neurons. It is a constituent of the Lewis Body inclusions as amyloid fibrils, in Parkinson's disease patients. It populates an ensemble of conformations and floats between the free random coil and the membrane-bound α-helical species.

Human carbonic anhydrases (hCAs) are widespread zinc enzymes that catalyze the hydration of CO to bicarbonate and a proton. Currently, 15 isoforms have been identified, of which only 12 are catalytically active. Given their involvement in numerous physiological and pathological processes, hCAs are recognized therapeutic targets for the development of inhibitors with biomedical applications.

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a chronic inflammatory disease belonging to the spectrum of small-vessel vasculitis associated with the presence of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs), also characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of target organs. Peripheral neuropathy (PN) affects about 2/3 of the patients as a presenting symptom and typically represents a vasculitic involvement. A few studies have addressed the role of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) for the treatment of PN in EGPA.

Inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin 6 (IL6), are associated with ion channel remodeling and enhance the propensity to alterations in cardiac rhythm generation and propagation, in which the hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels play a crucial role. Hence, we investigated the consequences of exposure to IL6 on HCN channels in cell models and human atrial biopsies. In murine atrial HL1 cells and in cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPS-CMs), IL6 elicited STAT3 phosphorylation, a receptor-mediated downstream signaling.

Hypoxia in tumors contributes to chemotherapy resistance, worsened by acidosis driven by carbonic anhydrases (CA IX and XII). Targeting these enzymes can mitigate acidosis, thus enhancing tumor sensitivity to cytotoxic drugs. Herein, novel 4-(pyrazolyl)benzenesulfonamide ureas () were developed and evaluated for their inhibitory activity against CA IX and XII.

Plants can communicate with each other and other living organisms in a very sophisticated manner. They use biological molecules and even physical cues to establish a molecular dialogue with beneficial organisms as well as with their predators and pathogens. Several studies were recently published that explore how plants communicate with each other about their previous encounters or stressful experiences.

Background & Aims: Safety data for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with atezolizumab-bevacizumab in the real-world setting remain uncertain. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of adverse events (AEs) in patients with HCC treated with atezolizumab-bevacizumab in the literature.
Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed for original studies reporting percentages of AEs in patients with HCC receiving atezolizumab-bevacizumab between 2020 to 2023, using the search terms "Atezolizumab/Bevacizumab", "HCC" and "Adverse events".

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer and the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Liver transplantation (LT) is the best therapy for most patients with non-metastatic HCC. In recent years, the management of patients with HCC has considerably changed, thanks to the improvement of molecular biology knowledge and the introduction of immunotherapy.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to endothelial dysfunction, platelet activation, and coagulation abnormalities, promoting thrombus formation. Given the growing interest in non-pharmacological approaches to modulate oxidative stress, we examine the potential of various dietary interventions and antioxidant supplementation in reducing oxidative damage and preventing thrombotic events. Key dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), and ketogenic diets, as well as antioxidant-rich supplements like curcumin, selenium, and polyphenols, demonstrate promising effects in improving oxidative stress markers, lipid profiles, and inflammatory responses.

Introduction: We studied the cellular immune response in a patient infected since 10 months (along with other 51 people) during a trichinellosis outbreak caused by Trichinella spp.
Methods: A 46 years old female resulted serologically positive for trichinellosis. We isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and incubated them with excretory/secretory antigens (ESA) of Trichinella spiralis (T1) or Trichinella pseudospiralis (T4) to produce antigen specific T cell lines and clones, analysed for the phenotype (T helper or cytotoxic cells), for their T4 or T1 antigens specificity and for their cytokine profile (IFNγ, IL-17A, IL-4) by flow cytometry, thymidine incorporation assay and ELISpot.

The definition of "non-metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer" (nmHSPC) can be applied to patients with prostate cancer (PC) who are androgen-deprivation therapy-naïve and without evidence of metastatic disease. This definition includes heterogeneous situations; however, PC patients at high risk of metastatic spread - and who have not started a hormonal treatment - constitute a unique category with unmet clinical needs. This narrative review critically discusses the advances that characterize the rapidly evolving diagnostic and therapeutic scenario in the nmHSPC setting.
