Purpose: To evaluate anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) features of Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) grafts associated with graft attachment worsening over time.

Methods: Retrospective case series on patients who received uncomplicated DMEK surgery and for whom subsequent AS-OCT data were available for analysis. Patients' demographics and surgical details were collected.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of visual impairment and blindness in older adults. The prognosis for the neovascular type of advanced AMD improved with the introduction of biological drugs with antiangiogenic properties, beginning with off-label bevacizumab, which was first used intravitreally in 2006. These drugs target newly formed vessels that grow beneath the center of the retina, causing loss of central vision, and they can help to maintain or improve vision.

Increased lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] has been associated with enhanced risk of cardiovascular events and more recently with venous thromboembolism. However, there is inconclusive data on the association between enhanced Lp(a) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO). We aimed to assess the role of Lp(a) in RVO.

Preservative-free topical medications have been introduced for glaucoma care to reduce ocular adverse events associated with preservatives. This is a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing the efficacy and safety of beta-blockers, or combination using beta-blockers, with and without preservatives. PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science were examined.

Biometric refractive error after cataract and retina surgery: a systematic review and a benchmark proposal.

Eye (Lond)

November 2021

Ophthalmology Clinic, Department of Neurosciences, Psychology, Drug Research and Child Health (NEUROFARBA), University of Firenze and AOU Careggi, Firenze, Italy.

Purpose: To systematically review studies on refractive error after phacovitrectomy and phacoemulsification and to investigate factors associated with larger error.

Materials And Methods: A literature search was performed using PUBMED and EMBASE until May 2020. The articles were included in the study if they reported data about refractive error as the difference in spherical equivalent between actual vs.

This study aimed to explore differences in vascular and structural parameters using optical coherence tomography angiography in patients with type 1 diabetes (DM1) with mild signs of diabetic retinopathy (DR) over a two-year follow-up period. Parafoveal vessel density (PVD) and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area were analyzed. The thickness of three predefined retinal slabs was measured, including the inner limiting membrane (ILM)-inner plexiform layer (IPL), IPL-inner nuclear layer (INL), and the IPL-outer nuclear layer (ONL).

Background/aims: This systematic review compared the efficacy and safety of benzalkonium chloride (BAK)-preserved eye-drops with alternatively preserved (AP) and preservative-free (PF) eye-drops.

Methods: PubMed, EMBASE and MEDLINE were searched for randomised controlled trials in June and October 2019. Study selection, data extraction and risk of bias assessment were made by two independent reviewers using the Cochrane Handbook.

The aim of this paper was to distinguish the appearance of cysts and non-perfusion areas (NPAs) in diabetic macular edema (DME) using two different Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) devices. In this study, patients underwent OCTA using the AngioVue XR Avanti Spectral Domain (SD) OCTA and the PLEX Elite 9000 Swept-Source (SS) OCTA. Foveal and extrafoveal regions of interest (ROI), defined as any area with an altered flow signal comparing to the surrounding retina, were selected in superficial and deep capillary plexus (SCP and DCP).
